Unlike most other authors in this genre (Amish fiction and even more broadly Christian fiction), Beverly Lewis manages to stay away from grating clichés and other pitfalls that typically plague these genres. Her works are not challenging, ground breaking fiction by far. In fact, the overall plot structure can be gleaned/forecasted from the beginning of the book once each character's set of problems has been introduced. I found the shared protagonist role (Jodi and Maryanna) more distracting than it should have been. The book was fairly long yet neither character's issues got the proper amount of narrative devoted to it. This is a decent, easy read. I don't recommend it (only because there is not a single outstanding thing about the book not because it's bad or has issues other than what I mentioned above) but also don't recommend against it.
