Interesting premise, but poor sourcing and an overall tone that I found exquisitely annoying.

nigh-unreadable, not only because Mr James seems to think that writing about the axe murders of over a hundred people requires a jolly tone, cheerful asides, puns about the victims' names, and references to shitting himself (multiple.)

the research may be sound (i doubt it), the conclusions might be accurate (it's possible), but the book itself is purely drivel.
