Black Swan Affair

OH WOWW! That's was an amazing read this is my first time reading something by K.L. Kreig but it sure as hell wont be the last. Absolutely phenomenal! This book hooked me from page 1 the writing is absolutely beautiful and the story was weaved so perfectly with multiple timelines and use of dual povs. I have to say I usually stay far away from books with love triangle but every now and then I find one that completely catches me off guard, this was it for me! This book has plenty of angst, betrayal, heartbreak, some mystery, loss, lots of love and yet it still manages to never make itself too overly dramatic. I was a roller coaster emotions the whole through and I'm currently on this after book high because it was such a breathtaking read!

if you ignore the very scandalous cover and a lot more smut than necessary the story is really cute. 3.5/5 2022: i did just reread this again because i saw a tiktok about it and i actually liked it more this time. 4/5

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I loved this book! I don't know how much I can say without spoilers but I'll try. I think Kael is perfect. I think Killian is an arse with some very big secrets and some very heavy burdens. I loved the way Black Swan played out and I think Maverick ended up with the right brother. Black Swan is a heart wrenching, heart breaking story of an impossible choice but was written so beautifully that you don't even mind your heart is being wrenched out and wrung dry. AND FUCK maverick desoto ! i gave her the benefit of the doubt and even projected my hate towards killian for majority of the book but turns out he wasn’t the problem at all. maverick is embarrassing, selfish, childish, a cheat, and overall a shitty fucking person. she puts herself on some kind of pedestal for being the complete opposite of her bitchy, stuck up sister jillian but really she’s just as bad as she is imo. she can’t go five seconds without a) mentioning how she’s still in love with killian, b) feeling bad for marrying killian’s brother, kael, bc she’s still in love with killian or c) emotionally cheating on kael with killian. sometimes all three within the same paragraph. now normally i enjoy cheating trope but kael was genuinely the sweetest man ever and deserved none of that. her apology to him at the end was so lame, talking about different kinds of love or some bs and trying to justify her feelings for both of them like?? and killian. as much as i disliked mav, killian wasn’t all that better. (although i did feel bad for him in the end.) he had his reasons for doing what he did and i’ll admit he was pretty selfless in a sense but not when it came to his brother. he had no respect for his brother’s marriage and was constantly pursuing his wife despite knowing kael has been in love with her his entire life. at least maverick felt bad about what she was doing to kael meanwhile killian didn’t give two shits that he was hurting his own brother. kael wasn’t completely innocent either but out of all the characters he definitely was the most likeable or at least had the most redeeming qualities. in the end maverick didn’t deserve either brother, who both sacrificed a lot to be with her, killian didn’t deserve kael either, and both men did something that hurt her even if they did have good intentions. i do think she chose the right brother tho and i cried during the epilogue cos i like babies in epilogues so 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ also all of their names & nicknames were so fucking stupid i know killian married her sister and all but i was more concerned over the fact that he calls maverick “small fry.” that was red flag #1 if u ask me. anyway 2 stars for kael shepard and kael shepard only, serving boy obsessed so true of him <33

Wow! This was a love triangle where the heroine actually chooses the GOOD option. Loved that!
