Book Review - Black Tangled Heard by Samantha Young


I knew that when I received the ARC copy of Samantha Young's 'Black Tangled Heart,' I was going to be in for some serious emotions. 

What I was not prepared for, however, was how severe the emotions I felt while reading. I am still in the "mourning" period of this book. I finished it in a day, and have needed to wait to write this review because I was still processing and mourning the ending of the book. Mourning because the story was over because I became attached to Jane and Jamie and their heartbreaking story. 

Samantha Young continues to deliver an epic love story that has drama, and heartache, and the "Samantha Young knack" to keep you going, to make you never want to put the book down, even when it is over. 

We start this story with Jane, a Jane Doe in the foster care system with a family she hopes will keep her until she is 18. Jane meets the hurricane known as Lorna and becomes fast friends and becomes a welcomed member of Lorna's family. Including Lorna's brother Jamie, whom Jane develops a killer crush on. 

We follow Jane and Jamie's life throughout the years. We see their relationship go through many hardships and even betrayals. 

I'm not going to go into the full story because really, you should buy the book and read it for yourself. And I don't believe in spoiling the book in reviews. 

Just know that Samantha Young grabs you tight and doesn't let you go throughout the story. You begin to feel like you are living Jane's life. It truly is a talent to be able to grab not only the attention of your reader but the emotions as well. Samantha Young has that talent. 

Jane and Jamie's story will be sticking with me for quite some time.

I love Sam’s books and I waited a lot to read this book and the waiting was totally worth it. The story is amazing, I love books that tell the story since the characters are young and everything they go through to get to that perfect place.

I loved Jamie and Jane. Their story was really passionate in a lot of ways, their relationship, how they were with each other and the heartbreak they went through. But what I loved the most was the bond they had after the good and the bad that had happened to them after all those years.

I really enjoyed reading this book, chapter by chapter I got consumed by the story and I just couldn’t put the book down. 

Samantha never disappoints and I can’t wait to read more from her.

Black Tangled Heart took me by surprise by how gripping and addicting it was! I enjoyed the first Play On book and though I haven’t read the second yet, I was still excited to see what Samantha Young had in store for us. As soon as I started reading, I was HOOKED onto Jane and Jamie’s story. It’s a story of first love, revenge, and second chances. There are moments that will hit you in the gut and give you ALL the feels. The romance is beautifully passionate and messy at the same time. I highly recommend this one if you want something unique and unputdownable!

This book is split into two different parts: the past, when Jane and Jamie first fall in love as teenagers, and the present, when they reunite as adults and are filled with revenge. In the past, Jane is a foster child when Jamie’s family moves in next door. His family becomes her pseudo-family and slowly, we see their love develop and bloom into something deep and beautiful. They may have only been teens, but the strength of their love is everlasting. Then tragedy strikes them, leaving the two heartbroken and eventually split apart for years. Now, Jamie is back in Jane’s life, feeling hurt, angry, and wanting revenge against the people who hurt his family… and wanting revenge against Jane.

What a wild, emotional trip this book was! The passion and chemistry between Jane and Jamie is INTENSE. I loved the parallel between their sweet young love and the volatile passion it turned into. The story’s also got a good dose of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This book could’ve easily been a 5 star read for me – I was LOVING the past and the way it was set up. But I got mad at what happened during Jane and Jamie’s separation, and the part when they got back together was a little too easy after all the build up. I wanted Jamie to grovel a bit more for what he did. And the revenge plot gets resolved too conveniently, which is why I’m giving this book 4 stars instead of 5. Still, it’s a fantastic read that will take you on an emotional journey. If you love Samantha Young, you don’t want to miss this one!
