is there anything better than books that you just grip you from the first page and you know you're going to love it?? the romance novels talk alone is enought to sell me BUT ALSO to find out mike reads them and the story of how he got into them was so CUTE,, how do you expect me not to fall in love

this was so cute and funny and it gave me all the feels!!! most of this book takes place over the course of one day where they first meet at a bookstore and start taking about romance novels and go on a date for the rest of the day and it's so so fun! it does feel a little insta-lovely but i found that i didn't really mind?? i was engrossed in cuteness that a trope i usually dislike DIDN'T matter so take from that what you will

the only thing that i found somewhat questionable is something mike did after the interview? i still don't know how i completely feel about it soo

A cute and fluffy love letter to romance books and their authors, with a number of them lovingly mentioned/discussed. It would have been a 4 star but for the definite insta-love side of things, which as it was so cute I'll forgive it on this occasion, but also yet another (1%er) potential boss/employee situation which I have to 🙄 and not forgive.

A few general thoughts on the romance genre: 

It seems there's a growing trend in having MMCS in romance undergoing more 'feminine' pursuits which just means they seem much more human to me, and I'm totally here for it. BUT I do wish that we could get rid of the still overabundance of billionaire CEO'S... especially as secret (or potential) bosses to the FMCs after their initial 'meet cute'. The odd few here and there wouldn't matter, but they are EVERYWHERE in the genre and it's so very tiresome to me. Ordinary working men(view spoiler)[ or even just upper-tier white-collar professionals who still earn vastly more than the masses but are not millionaire/billionaire running massive corporations or the most powerful in society (hide spoiler)] are just as deserving of love too. 

Obviously, I'm one of the few who vastly prefer reality over fantasy in my romance overall* but especially in CR, but then I've also recently come to realise that I don't read romance for just the romantic pairings, but ALL the interpersonal relationships they contain. And this makes so much sense to me now, given some of my preferences and opinions vs many other readers of the genre (especially in my age group), because romance doesn't happen in a vacuum. And better understanding of our own tastes can only improve our success when picking books to read - especially those we buy rather than borrow - rather than blindly following the hype train or other people's opinions. But maybe that's just me.

*except for some types of PNR where a level of hilarious absurdity is definitely catnip to me!
