Blood Song
Zeraphina is in a living hell. Her sister is about to be married off to a wealthy prince, her mother is spending the last of their kingdom's fortune on Lilith's dowry, and Zeraphina is forced along for the ride. Her only consolations on the long carriage ride to Pergamia are that her loyal companions, golden eagle Griffin and wildcat Leap, are by her side - and that Zeraphina's burning hunger to travel north is finally being sated. Already her black hair and pale eyes mark her out as different, but now Zeraphina must be even more careful to keep her secret safe. Craving blood is not considered normal behaviour for anyone, let alone a princess. When the king's advisor, Rodden, seems to know more about her condition than she does, Zeraphina is determined to spy on him to find out more. There seems to be a connection to Lharmell, the country to the north - but why does no one speak of the Lharmellins, or the threat of attack from the night skies that sees the castle's walls manned by soldiers? In the end, it's what Rodden doesn't tell her that may prove to be Zeraphina's downfall...
