So, I actually finished this about 4 or 5 days ago. Why did I not review it immediately? Because this book sent me into such a book hangover I've spent the last few days dredging up as much energy as I could to make this review. Don't let that fool you though! This book was FANTASTIC! I didn't like it *quite* as much as Windwitch, but it really is a minuscule difference.

First of all, I need to make something clear. I have not read Sightwitch. What I DID do, is go to Susan Dennard's website and read the recap for the book so I could know what happens in the novella. Should I have read Sightwitch? Yeah, probably. But reading the recap seemed to work just fine for me too. So, if you want to know if you should read the novella first but really don't want to, know this is an option for you. It expanded my appreciation of Bloodwitch immensely, so I'd recommend doing that at least.

Now, as for the plot. As expected, it did not go where I expected. At the end of Windwitch, I thought that certain plots set up in that book would be routine in this book. Done well, yes, and interesting, but routine all the same. That is NOT what happened! It was original and fun! There was so much slow-burn for the plot, despite the fact that it moved fairly quickly. And it all payed off beautifully at the end! This didn't feel like a set up book to me like Windwitch did. A lot of important things definitely happened!

The characters were great, as usual. Aeduan definitely got the most development (duh, its his book), but aside from him, I think Vivia had the most. The reason I gave this book a slightly lower rating is because, unlike the last book, there were certain POV characters that I was less interested in. For example, I was much more interested in Safi's story than Merik's. However, that was just a small thing. Also, the romance was top-notch. EVERYONE had chemistry! And I think almost everyone had at least more than one love interest. Don't let that turn you off though! It definitely is NOT your standard love triangle. In fact, I don't think you can call it a triangle at all. This book is turning me into a multi-shipper and I am here for it.

I love how much the world has expanded! I am a major mythology nut, both in real life and in books. Because of that, getting more background on this world's history and religion, as well as the mythology, was so much fun! This is the reason I recommend at least finding out what happens in Sightwitch, because I actually had the ability to craft more theories and react to more surprises due to knowing. 

I can't really say anything else without spoiling. Thankfully, I don't have to wait for the next book, so I'll be reading it really soon. All I'll say is, if you haven't picked up this series, you NEED to do so now! Seriously, it's that good!

What a whirlwind ride from start to finish! Susan Dennards writing is incredible. Her characters are flawlessly fleshed out. I was constantly thrown off course by the twists and turns, the magic and the lore and history she has created for this world is just *chefs kiss* delightful.

Giving this 3.5 stars. I do feel that the plot is finally advancing to an exciting point (especially at the end!) but the condensed timeline of the story makes everything feel claustrophobic & overwhelming. So many things are happening at once, yet through 3.5 books only a couple of weeks have passed? That's...unreasonable.

I did feel like causes of or explanations for certain important plot points were just hand-waved and glossed over, which I don't like. That said, there was some decent character development in here! 

One of the biggest drawbacks to this book - in my mind - is that it is absolutely necessary to read Sightwitch before reading this book in order to understand why everything is happening. I feel this is unfair on the author's part; why put all of the explanatory backstory in a prequel novella between books?! As much as I ultimately liked SIGHTWITCH, I feel like there could have been a better execution to insert elements of this story into the main books. Series novellas are supposed to be the cherry on the cake, not the literal cake itself!

OH. MY. WORD.

I don't want to go too far into details because this is the third book in a series, but here's what I can say.

This book made me so dang emotional! It was absolutely everything I could have hoped for and more. Honestly the only reason I didn't give it 5 full stars is because I was concerned I might have just been on a high from emotions.

All of our favorites return for another adventure. Some characters even see each other for the first time since Truthwitch. It was amazing. Sooz has this way of writing in Easter eggs of information books before we even knew what we were looking for. This is one of those series where you catch something new every time you read it. 

There were just so many amazing things about this book. The plot, the characters, the writing. It's all amazing.

If you haven't read this series yet, I don't know what you're waiting for because it's absolutely brilliant.

I received a preview of this book from NetGalley and it has me so excited for this book! While I did not get to read the entire book ahead of time, the parts that I did read got me excited and anxious for what is to come. Picking up where the story left off in Windwitch, Bloodwitch starts the action immediately and gets you ready for what I can only assume is something really big. This book already has me excited for what is going to happen and the next book in the series! If you've already read Truthwitch or Windwitch, pick up Bloodwitch on Tuesday and enjoy the ride!

At last I have caught up with The Witchlands series! What do I do with myself while I wait for the next book?

Bloodwitch was an incredible book that reaffirmed Aeduan and Iseult as my favorite characters of the series. I found their chapters to be the most exciting to read, and their relationship as a whole is what makes me itch to give this book a beautiful five stars. Safi’s chapters were also much more enjoyable to read, as were Merik’s, but their stories did not grip me as much as Aeduan and Iseult’s did, and unfortunately Vivia’s chapters haven’t entirely won me over yet, although I do believe this might change in next book. This is a great book and I enjoyed reading it so much, but taking everything into account, I don’t feel like I can give it a full 5 star rating. *types this while having her Rating System at hand* 

All the character storylines end in a way that makes me very anxious to know how the story continues. I can’t wait to know the title, the cover, the release date of the next book! Everything seems to be set up for it to become my favorite in the series. No pressure at all.

I was definitely a casual fan of this series after reading Truthwitch and Windwitch. But this book right here? This is the type of book that creates lifelong fans. The kind that theorize about what will happen next, obsess over characters and their relationships, go out of their way to buy merch inspired by the books and definitely add fan art to their phone backgrounds. 😂

Needless to say, this book is an incredible sequel and reminded me of everything that drew me into this series in the first place. The characters are so nuanced and well developed, the world building is rich and intricate and the storyline itself continues to build and move with almost perfect pacing.

Truly, this is the type of book I find it difficult to even fault – except perhaps to say that I just want all of my faves to have the chance to nap and laugh for an evening ... they must be soooo tired. 😂

What I love most about this series is how seamlessly Dennard has weaved each character’s storyline together. We constantly see characters crossing each other’s paths, sometimes while seeking out other characters and every time I get that giddy “oh my gosh, what will they do!” feeling.

This series is the perfect balance of everything that makes a great fantasy series: characters worth fighting for, immersive and detailed world building, well crafted storylines that constantly keep tugging at you, slow burning and realistic romances, and a magic system that is so tightly honed and developed that you sort of wish you belonged to a witchery too.

Needless to say, this series is only getting better and I’m looking forward to Witchshadow’s release!
