The Book of Runes is a short introduction to using runes as a divination tool. Now, from what I can gather from other reviews and my admittedly introductory reading on the topic, Blum takes a rather intuitive approach to reading the runes, one that is not necessarily based on historic knowledge. Tarot has been embroiled in a debate over whether or not purely intuitive reading is a legitimate form of using these tools, or whether it is important to understand the historic symbolism. Thus, your mileage may vary on the utility of this book. Blum introduces some good spreads, but this is certainly not a traditional book, nor particularly detailed. Even as a beginner, I thought some of his descriptions were a bit too samey.
