If not for the slight overload of technical music jargon, I may have very well given this book five stars...a rare move for me these days. (I'm getting pickier about books in my older age.) This book had my two required prerequisites...excellent character development and enough emotion to pull me in and keep me closely connected. It also had a third element that gets me almost every time...as it did this time. History, glorious history. While I respect the amount of research that went in to the technical musical aspects, it had my eyes glazing over at times...(purely a result of my own intellectual shortcoming.) I enthusiastically recommend this book! (If you're a musician, there's a darn good chance you'll be giving it all five stars.)
