Better of the series so far. I really liked Jake's backstory, it makes sense and it's not unnecessary angst or martyr syndrom.

I'll admit I wasn't a huge fan of the first two of this series, but I'd already 'committed' to reading them (read: downloaded). This one is definitely the best of the three in this series. I think the two authors have hit their stride in terms of balance, and while Oz has the hallmarks of being an annoying character (potential to be self-consciously written to be the anti-macho man), I think the authors actually did a really skilled job at writing a real human being. The story line was sweet, and I guess I'm a sucker for some angst and drama, because I was happy with where Jake's story went. It all wraps up in a fairly predictable way, but I was happy about it (don't read this genre if you hate happy endings!), and unlike some books I felt the characters remained consistent through to the end, even while they underwent growth. So I guess you could say I was happily and pleasantly surprised.
