Dieses Buch versetzt einen sofort in Sommerstimmung – das Meer, die Sonne, die Faulheit und die Trägheit, die einen in der Hitze befällt, spürt man auf einmal selbst. Die Handlung ist genial und spannend, der Schreibstil einfach großartig. Die Charaktere sind detailliert beschrieben, nahbar und authentisch.

Besonders mochte ich die Hauptprotagonisten und liebte es, ihre klaren Gedanken und Pläne zu verfolgen auch wenn ihre Handlungen fragwürdig waren.

Das Buch behandelt Themen wie Realitätsflucht und fixe Vorstellungen, denen man sich hingibt, die Angst vor Veränderung und das Festhalten an einem ausschweifendes Leben.

Ich hatte so viel Spaß beim Lesen und nenne dieses Buch die perfekte Sommerlektüre!

Just read that Sagan wrote and published this when she was only 18, and that just makes so much sense. Only a teenager would know how to write such a perfect depiction on how teenagers actually talk, think, and act. 

Cécile is spoiled, bratty, and unlikeable as a character, which just makes her all the more likeable to me. Actually, everyone is a likeable unlikeable character ! She knows what's morally right and wrong for both her father and Anne but she's also naive in a lot of things. Her understanding of love, her relationship with Cyril, what she thinks about Elsa, and her desire to stay in a frivolous life.

If you like Tender Is the Night or Fitzgerald's work overall and are looking for something similar (a summer read with an unlikeable cast of characters (but I'd say Sagan writes snobby rich people better than Fitzgerald lol)), then I would recommend this one. 🏖 ☀️

I didn’t expect to love the writing in this as much as I did, borderline lyrical. I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would I can’t lie. I went in thinking maybe a 2.5/3 star but no majority of my reading it was a 3.5.

i loved the writing style. The character of Cecile was actually more likeable than I expected. Schönes, tragisches Sommerbuch - immer untersetzt von einer ungreifbaren Melancholie, weil man schon ahnt, dass auf heiße, unbedachte, junge Sommertage ein trister, konsequenter Winter folgt. 

Wie jedes Jahr verbringt die siebzehnjährige Cecile ihre Sommerferien an der französischen Rivieria. Sie genießt die unbeschwerte Zeit, die sie mit ihrem jugendlichen Vater und seiner augenblicklichen Freundin, verbringen darf. Eines Tages platzt Anne, eine Freundin von Ceciles verstorbener Mutter, in diese Idylle der Heiterkeit und Lebenslust. Der Vater ist derart hingerissen von Anne, daß er schon bald bereit wäre, seinen bisherigen Lebensstil aufzugeben und sie zu heiraten. Wenngleich Cecile sehr wohl Sympathie für Anne empfindet, sieht sie doch ihre Freiheit bedroht, so daß sie ein fein ausgeklügeltes Spiel inszeniert, um ihren Vater von Anne zu trennen. Die Rechnung geht auf, allerdings mit weitaus tragischeren Folgen als erwartet.

É um pequeno livro, com uma história simples e banal, mas capaz de criar o seu mundo e transportar-nos para ele. Honestamente, tive de ir procurar as razões que fizeram deste livro um sucesso e um clássico, pois detendo-me sobre o texto apenas não as encontrei. Mas do que acabei lendo sobre o livro, também pouco ou nada me convenceu ou satisfez.

O livro conta a história de Cecile, 17 anos, que viaja de Paris para Saint-Tropez com o seu pai, para aí passar as férias de verão. O seu pai leva atrelado uma jovem namorada que a meio das férias resolve trocar por outra. Entretanto Cecile encontra um namorado de verão. Mas ao longo de praticamente todo o livro, pouco ou nada acontece. Existe um twist final, esse sim responsável pelo título, mas que não surpreende.

O livro terá surtido forte efeito por dar conta de uma jovem, aparentemente, libertina(!). A rapariga tem relações com um rapaz quase 10 anos mais velho, em plenas férias de verão. Mas o seu pai não parece muito preocupado. Aliás, se fossemos ficar chocados com ela, o que dizer do pai, que troca de namorada semana a semana, e em plenas férias manda vir uma outra mulher passar as férias consigo e com a filha, enquanto descarta a que inicialmente tinham vindo com eles?

Não sei. A mim a história nada diz, hoje ou em 1954. A literatura está cheia de histórias destas, não apenas depois, mas mesmo séculos antes. Por outro lado, não faltariam historietas de cordel com bastante mais picante nessa altura. Falar do livro como motor da revolução sexual parece-me um exagero. Por isso aquilo que existe aqui que me surpreende é apenas a idade de quem escreve. 17 anos e uma obra cosida desta forma, é obra.

O francês é acessível, nada de muito rebuscado no vocabulário, mas o encadeamento de ideias, a estrutura da narrativa e a construção de mundo ficcional, está tudo muito bem conseguido. Contudo, parece que era mesmo só técnica, já que Françoise Sagan escreveu imensos livros depois desta primeira obra, e nunca mais conseguiu repetir o feito. Pensando bem, "Bonjour Tristesse" mais do que uma história de ficção é um relato autobiográfico, um desfiar em modo novelesco de um conjunto de peripécias, que acabou encontrando o seu público, nada mais. E por isso é estranho, ou mesmo tonto, ver o Le Monde colocar um livro destes na lista das 100 obras mais importantes do século XX, mesmo que esta tenha tido, ou se pense que teve, grande impacto na sociedade francesa e europeia.

حسب ما قرأتُ أنّ الكتاب يصنّف ضمن "النوفيلات" وإذا أخذنا بعين الاعتبار كونها نُشرت في خمسينيات القرن الماضي والمؤلفة حينها كانت ابنة 19 عاماً وهي تضج بتفاصيل المراهقة وأبيها وحبيبة أبيها فهي تعتبر من الروايات القليلة التي أحدثت ضجة في "حينها" لكن بمقاييس اليوم هي رواية ملتزمة :)
عموماً أحببت منها السرد اللذيذ وعدم الطول.

أقتبس: " إني أتردد في أن أخلع على هذا الشعورالمجهول الذي يلاحقني ملله وحلاوته، اسم الحزن الجميل، إنه شعور كامل أناني إلى حد أنّي أكاد أخجل منه، بينما بدا الحزن دائماً لي شريفاً".

[3.5] I feel like I should cut Ms. Sagan some slack here, because she was 17 when she wrote this, but then I remember that SE Hinton was around the same age when she wrote  The Outsiders, which I feel is more interesting than this little book. It could be the translation that made this so-so, but I don't think it is, because the writing itself was pretty good, it was more the plot that wasn't that great. Maybe it's because I'm not a 17-year-old rich French girl with a hedonist father.

Oh man! I’ve been reading a whole lot of comments that the book was bad because Cécile is an unlikeable & spoiled brat, but that’s the entire point!

The authors ability to tell a big story in a little book, including character development and absolutely NAILING what a rich & spoiled teenager sounds like… It’s unreal. 

I always value & respect other people’s opinions but I personally won’t hear a bad word about this book.

I quite enjoyed the writing of this book. It was almost like reading poetry and without knowing why I pictured the whole plot in a place similar to the movie call me by your name and to the place I envisioned in my head when reading The Stranger.

The main character was definitely a very interesting and peculiar person. There were moments that I could completely relate to her feelings and overall mood which isn't quite a positive thing (since the character wasn't the best person ever) but it did make me feel good. I love when I find characters similar to me. I found it funny when she was constantly changing her mind, and again, I could relate completely. The other characters I found to be quite annoying but that is not a bad thing at all. Books need dislikeable characters all the time.

I didn't have many expectations getting into this. I didn't even know what the book was about. I only knew that it was pretty well-known. I found it to be very monotonous through the whole thing and the only thing truly shocking only appeared in the last two pages. Nevertheless, I was not expecting it and although it wasn't a super action-packed plot I still really enjoyed the characters, the writing, and the whole ambiance.

So this is the story of Cécile, a seventeen-year-old upper-class French schoolgirl with this kind of womanising, playboy dad. Playboy Dad more or less lets Cécile do what she wants, but then he randomly decides to marry someone he just met (?) and she is actually a pain in the arse, so Cécile spends the rest of the novel scheming to get rid of her.

I did find it vaguely amusing, and I enjoyed Cécile's cynicism about love and her relationship with Cyril, but overall… it was an amusing little read but not much more than that.
