I got hooked on C.C. Hunter after reading “In Another Life” and I’m now devouring all of her other reads. I loved the fantasy of this novel and how it wasn’t over the top. The details were so good you actually felt like you were in the book with the characters. 

When Kylie’s dad moves out and her parents are heading for divorce she decides to get out of the house and go to a party with her best friend Sara. Even though she doesn’t drink or do drugs she needs to get her mind off her parents and hang out even if that means seeing her recently ex boyfriend. It also doesn’t help that she keeps seeing an Army guy that apparently no one else can see. When the party gets raided by the cops Kylie finds herself arrested also even though she’s sober. Her mom decides to send her to a camp for the rest of the summer that Kylie assumes is for delinquent kids but after meeting the other kids at the camp she finds herself completely wrong. Everyone at the camp is some sort of supernatural and Kylie is trying to figure out what kind she is while dealing with more parent drama and guy drama than she anticipated. 

I loved all the characters in this book and the spookiness of it. I’m normally not one for fantasy novels but I found myself really enjoying this one. I also loved how it was completely different from other vampire and supernatural novels (I think we all know what I’m referring to). Great book and I’m excited to read the rest of the books in this series.

I can't say I hated this book. . . but man did I not like it. I guess I'm too used to reading post-Twilight craze YA novels that avoid falling into the same stereotypical ine-dimensional plot holes. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun read, an easy one. But think along the lines of why you loved or hated books like Twilight or Fallen by Lauren Kate. Main girl, pretty but doesn't know it, unsure of who/what she is(or makes her special), unfailingly sweet, chaste, and confused. Two guys who are instantly killing each other over her, one coming of as nice, the other dangerous, both super hot and arouse extreme feelings in our heroine. A place filled with supernaturals, all of whom make excellent exposition because they understand way more than the protagonist. Said supernaturals are all mysterious, plot-twistingly layered, and extremely attractive. Looming threats of death or destruction. Quest to find themselves. And don't forget the hero sees things no one else can.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Like, it's not a bad book, not at all. The writing is funny and well done, the characters are developed, the plot is clean and clear. . . but I've just read it all before. A friend recommended this series to me years ago (cheers Arianna!) and maybe it was the build up of wondering about the series for so many years but honestly, I was expecting more. But still a good book if you want an easy read you won't get super emotionally attached too.

Not sure if I'll read the sequels, perhaps if the opportunity arises 🤔

While I didn't finish the series, I definitely fell in love with the first few books. I think there was one too many books in this series but I enjoyed the story and the characters!

I really enjoyed the story it was very fast paced and it hooked me right away. There were a few to many crude parts in the book, and some of the things that the characters do just made me disappointed. I don't know about this book...I'm not feeling it. And the love triangle is killing me, it's the first time ever a love triangle bother me, well let's put this book on hold for now.
