I want to start by saying that I think I just wasn’t the right public for this story.

It is a YA Cinderella scie-fi story. A reverse Space fairy tale. It has robots, space ships and pirates, an independent princess and a kingdom that needs to be saved. There really is something special about this book, the characters are all very loveable and it’s just very wholesome. Also it is a stand alone, and the cover is beautiful, it’s what brought my attention in the first place.

But for me, I think something was missing or maybe it’s just too YA for my liking. I do recommend it to everyone who thinks this would be something they would enjoy. It does deserve more hype and you should give it a try. It’s perfect for a rainy night or a hot sunny afternoon. It is a short and fun and cute read !

Rogue Princess by B.R. Meyers is an excellent intertext with a twist on the Cinderella classic fairy tale.

I love a good inter text, so Rogue Princess was a natural for me! It didn't hurt that the cover is gorgeous, and the author is Canadian! Bonus points, eh! 

Princess Delia needs to pick a prince - a man to marry who will help build an alliance and save her planet. Of course, she's a wee bit of a rebel and decides to steal a spaceship to run away from her life's problems. And then, she meets our "Cinderella" - Aidan. This thief just wants to live his life, but ends up slowly falling head over heels for the Princess. All the while, it turns out a big conspiracy regarding the planet and sustainability is going on, so the two of them will need to address that at some point... Or else the planets might be in jeopardy.

This book is a fast paced, fantastical, and romantic read that kept me hooked. I am blown away with how fun this sci-fi, gender swapped take of Cinderella was, and I definitely suggest it to those who love a great fairy tale retelling.

This book was easy and fun and I really enjoyed the audiobook. I’ve been in a reading slump so listening to this story really helped. 

Rogue princess is a gender swap Cinderella story, which is intriguing. Not only that, but the setting is in space! (Kinda, I mean there are different planets so that’s space to me.) This book is quite similar to the lunar chronicles, down to one of the characters being an Android. It was hard to appreciate this book as it’s own entity because I couldn’t stop the comparisons. 

I loved Delia and Aiden. They were both fun characters and even though I thought their story was on the insta love side, I still found it fun and sweet. The only other thing I didn’t care for was the ending. I felt like it was rushed and cheesy at times. 

If you need an easy and quick read between books, this is a good one to go to!

This was not good. It was a little (or a lot) all over the place with plot lines. Most of them were unnecessary and didn't make much sense. It felt like a lot of it was added for a plot twist or to be shocking and it just didn't work. I also felt no chemistry between the two main characters, so their relationship (and how fast it developed) was super unbelievable. And I just really didn't care about either of them. The writing was not good either. There were way too many cheesy lines, and I like a bit of cheese, but these were poorly written (there was a lot of eye rolling and gagging from me). The ending wrapped up too easily and quickly and was very convenient. This book wasn't for me and the only reason I kept reading it was too see how ridiculous it would continue to be.

Review: I really liked this Fantasy like Sci-fi adventure. The book did a total twist on me and I completely fell for it. It’s also a gender-swapped Cinderella telling. And did I mention…. SPACEEEEEEEEEEEEE? Anyways, the writing was perfection, the book was amazing, and the characters were so well developed. The world building was also excellent!

The only downside is that the book was pretty fast paced and it’s such a fast beginning that it leaves you breathless.

Verdict: If you like fantasy and sci-fi you’ll like this!

Really liked the twist and turns that braided together this story;) 

I loved the tons of similarities relating this story to one like Cinderella but with a few futuristic additions! And I appreciated that the trials of the main characters were “real”. Energy crisis, social distinctions, and leadership responsibility were highlighted in a great way. 

It was a perfect taste of adventure, romance, sci-fi, and fairytale!

rogue princess is a ya sci-fi & gender swapped retelling of cinderella that follows crown princess delia of astor, & aidan, a thief who is desperate to leave his life at home. when delia is forced to choose a prince to marry to save astor, her attempt to escape causes their paths to collide on a stolen spaceship. as delia & aidan uncover a rebel conspiracy, they must work together to save astor. 

my first impression of this book was that it was being compared to being the lunar chronicles, but honestly i feel like the similarities stop at the high concept. while cinder follows the fairytale pretty closely, one of the things that i noticed about rogue princess is that i probably wouldn't have figured out it was a cinderella retelling until mid-way if i didn't read the summary before. even then, it doesn't place much emphasis on key scenes, i.e. the ball. like throne of glass, i wouldn't say it's amazing as a retelling, but the book was fantastic & interesting on its own. 

although it took a while, the book really grew on me with its brilliantly crafted political intrigue & introduction to astor's lore and mythology. my favourite aspects of the book took place in the royal palace, where i was constantly questioning everyone's motives, especially the princes that delia was supposed to choose between. & princess shania, delia's sister, was so witty & interesting. in addition, the worldbuilding of other places that delia & aidan visit feel vivid & expansive, which i really appreciated. 

i was pleasantly surprised by the plot twists in the book, & they were unpredictable but in a good way. one of the small things i noticed & didn't really like were how often exclamation points was used in dialogue and narration. also, there was a scene where it was overtly mentioned how symbolic the moment was, & personally i think it would been more impactful for it to have been more subtle.

I’m the worst at figuring out retellings unless they explicitly tell me THIS IS A ______ RETELLING, like this book said it’s a gender-swapped sci-fi retelling of Cinderella. I personally would not have guessed, and that could be because I’m not a huge Cinderella fan, or just haven’t watched it enough to catch it. Either way, I personally really enjoyed this novel and I don’t even think Cinderella when I think of this novel. I just don’t, and I think that works out better for me.

Don’t you just love it when princesses don’t want to get married in order to rule their kingdoms? I personally love it a lot, because if they are the ones born into royalty, why can’t they rule on their own? Why do they neeeeeeeeeeed a husband if it’s not a marriage of love, you know? I know about doing your duty and all that, but come on. Princesses can rule as Queens without having to have a husband in order to be fulfilling their duty. I also get the whole political alliance thing, which is why Princess Delia needs to marry someone in the first place, but come on. That kind of thinking is so antiquated and needs to be looked at and changed. Political alliances should be sealed based on a marriage. But anyway, that’s just my own personal thoughts on this whole thing.

I am also a huge fan of strong sister bonds in novels, and I feel like Delia and Shania had that in this novel. I get that sisters aren’t always friends at all hours of the day, but being able to truly support your sister in times of need and just be there for her is what makes me love reading about sisters. I don’t have a sister, but if I did, I’d want a strong bond between us. I wouldn’t even mind having a novel just about Delia and Shania, and I’m curious if Myers would do a spin off on Shania and what she gets into these days.

I definitely want a physical copy of this novel once it comes out, because I can see myself reading this one again and going back into this world. I loved Delia. I loved Shania. Aidan made me laugh and I just can’t get enough of this novel.

Rogue Princess was one of my most anticipated 2020 releases for SO many reasons. I mean, have you seen the cover!? Swoon. Plus, I've been a bit nostalgic for the feelings that came with my first time reads of other sci-fi retellings such as Once & Future and Cinder. Rogue Princess promised to be the gender-swapped Cinderella retelling of my dreams! And I was intrigued.

From the moment I saw it, I was smitten and excited. It got bumped up my TBR the second I got approved for the ARC and I wasted little to no time in diving into my first B.R. Myers novel. Alas, it wasn't love at first read for me and Rogue Princess. Shockingly, I had to put it down and pick it back up a few times before I truly got into the story groove. (Don't worry, I'm just as disappointed in myself as you are.)

While it was good, it didn't exactly live up to the level of hype I set up for it. Don't get me wrong. I really and truly enjoyed it! B.R. Myers' prose is compelling and the way she retells such a classic tale is lively. There was a slow start in terms of connectivity for me, but I think it goes without saying that this has nothing to do with the story or Myers' itself--it is entirely subjective to me as a person.

Rogue Princess, once fully into its own groove, felt like pure entertainment and creativity. Although it took some time for me to become invested in the story, it was thoroughly charming and electric. It really hits its stride about a quarter of the way in, for me, and proves to be an adventurous gem of a novel. I absolutely adored the gender-swapped twist, much like I expected to. It took all the great and familiar traits of your standard Cinderella, and played them to its advantage.

Further, I thought the cast of characters were all easy to like and root for. Rogue Princess shines because of the way it weaves fantasy, adventure, comedy and romance. Myers' characters, too, prove to be likable--I loved Delia and Aiden.

Ultimately, I had a lot of fun with Rogue Princess. Despite issues I had getting into it at first, I really enjoyed this spin on Cinderella. It's definitely a blast that will keep readers smiling!

This was really entertaining. It definitely gave me some Lunar Chronicles vibes at times but it had great characters and a much more involved plot than I had assumed to start with. Delia and Aidan are brilliant and at some point I was definitely on the edge of my seat. I liked the style of it and the little nods to the original Cinderella story scattered throughout here and there.
