Hmm, I don’t remember the last time I was so confused and undecided how to rate the book. Actually, I dnfed it the first time I started reading it, because there was a smutty scene in the fourth chapter (9% of the book), while it was pretty hot, I usually hate when it happens in the books. I decided to pick it up again, because I saw that the second book in the series looks interesting and I wanted to read the whole series to feel more connected to the story. 

The concept of the book and the plot seemed great in theory, but in practice? I’m not so sure. We have a cop who wants to get promoted and become a detective to please his father by putting the Vitales family in prison, and his love interest, Enzo, who is one of three brothers in Vitales family. 

The story and everything else was fine, but my main problem was the romance. I’m pretty sure they only fall in love based on how much they were horny for each other.

If a had to choose which one of our two main characters I liked more, I would definitely point at Enzo. This guy was a mobster, who looked like a sexy college professor. I mean, he had glasses, wore suits, was a neat freak and had tattoos. The thing I love about their relationship, or more like dynamic is that Enzo was shorter and the dominant one. It’s unusual, so I very much liked it. I have to admit that his man was hot. Like, hot hot hot. The dirty mouth he had, I- have not words to describe it. He had some cute moments too, for example buying stuff for Tex’s cat. And obviously, he was possessive, really possessive. 


  
    "I’m going to drag him home.” Giancarlo’s mouth tilted down in a frown. “He’s a cop.” 
“He’s the man I love.”
“Right, a mobster and a cop.” More laughter bubbled out of him. “Fuck, you got it bad.” There was no denying that. I loved Tex Caster, and there was a future for us even if I had to clear the way with blood."
  


It’s towards the end when they are together finally, but Enzo will definitely be a perfect boyfriend. Obviously, as much as you can call him perfect, because this guy is a mobster. 


  
    "Enzo grinned, and my world lit right up. “You called me your boyfriend.” My face heated. “I did.” 
“I’m your boyfriend?”
“Am I?” 
“Yes!” I yelled, pulling my hands away to glare daggers at him. “Happy?” Enzo’s smile grew, bordering on insanity. “Happier than I’ve ever been.”
  


Moving on to the other main character, Tex… I don't know how this guy survived as a cop. There was said that his dad being an ex-cop helped him, but seriously the choices he made sometimes made me question how he still walks on this earth. He also thought one thing and did another. Not to mention he should make an appointment with some shrink. 


  
    "Then I will know he really cares about me. Goddamn, I need therapy."
  


But at least he knew that. I don’t remember the last time when I read a mafia romance where the mc even though being horny and "in love" with the hero, still wanted to end things and stay away from him. Tex wanted that, so I guess he wasn’t as stupid as I thought at first. He was also a cat person, which is a green flag. 

I will definitely continue this series because "Paid in Full" about Giancarlo and his love interest Ash, who has not been mentioned in this book yet, has so much potential to be amazing. At least I hope so. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that.
