A Brit on the Side

A Brit on the Side

Bea's English escape plan: * Work in a real English castle* Spend quality time with bestie* Figure out what spotted dick really is* Fall for bestie's older brother. Hard.Bea Gillespie would rather do anything than teach summer school math two classrooms down from her ex-fianc. So when her best friend, Scarlett, invites her to England for the summer to work in her family's castle-turned-hotel, she jumps at the chance. Now Bea's an ocean away from her problems at home, but she's got a bigger one. A British one. Scarlett's older brother, Jasper, is at Castle Calder for the summer, too. And he's as sexy and smart as Bea remembers. Two years ago Jasper came stateside, and he and Bea shared a hot weekend. But that's all it was - a weekend. One she purposely didn't tell Scarlett about. It didn't feel like much of a secret until now. As Bea falls for Jasper, what started off as a fling begins feeling more and more like the kind of thing you'd gush about to your best friend. If you hadn't been lying to her all along.

Find this review and more kimberlyfaye reads. As much as I enjoyed Brenda St. John Brown's Truth series, I've been waiting for her to write another new adult book because I loved her first one so very much. (That's Swimming to Tokyo, in case you didn't know. You should read it. Really.) And you know what? It was worth waiting on because A Brit on the Side was so flipping good. I've always had a love affair with England and I'm a huge fan of the best friend's brother trope, so this one had my name written all over it from the start. I fell in love with the setting – English castle for the win! – and the characters. Bea was a great heroine. I loved how she was trying to find herself after breaking off her engagement to a guy who really wasn't good for her. Jasper was more than a little prickly in the beginning – and y'all know I'm a sucker for a grumpy guy – but as the story went on, I understood more about him and why he acted the way he did at times. After that? He was totally swoon-worthy. Bea and Jasper together? LOVED. They had so much chemistry and, even they only had a short term thing in the past, it was easy to see how well they fit together. (Even if Jasper's sister would totally disagree... hence making it a secretive and "forbidden" romance – which ticked two more of my favorite trope boxes.) It was so easy to get lost in this book. It was a quick, sexy and swoony escape and I pretty much devoured it. I'm excited that this is the first in a new series because I'll certainly be following along. The secondary characters were intriguing and I can't wait to get more from them as this series continues. I won a copy of this book from the author! This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. FAVORITE QUOTES "Do you know what I remember best about that afternoon?" "What?" "How you kissed me afterwards. Like I was water in a desert and you would never get enough." "How are you going to fuck with me then?" "Fast and hard, soft and slow. However makes you scream."
