Saga è, indiscutibilmente, una delle serie più lette, amate e attese degli ultimi anni. Non solo in America, dove è nata dalla penna del pluripremiato sceneggiatore Brian K. Vaughan e dai disegni (e colori) di Fiona Staples, ma in tutto il mondo. Al punto che, quando dopo il nono volume i due autori hanno annunciato una lunga pausa prima di riprendere un nuovo ciclo narrativo, i fan hanno letteralmente iniziato un conto alla rovescia nell’attesa di questo decimo volume. E finalmente, ora, è arrivato il momento del tanto atteso ritorno: la famiglia di Marko, Alana, Hazel e tutto il ricchissimo cast di questo universo fantascientifico che parla di temi attualissimi con un linguaggio fresco e moderno è pronta a farci emozionare di nuovo. I due autori hanno annunciato una programmazione della serie a cadenza regolare, per altri nove volumi che terranno tutti con il fiato sospeso.

Saga hooked me faster than I expected. On paper it’s sci-fi fantasy chaos—wings, horns, magic, spaceships that grow in forests—but once you’re a few chapters in, none of that is the point anymore. This is really a story about two people who fall in love in the worst possible circumstances and then try to keep their kid alive while the universe actively tries to erase them. What really worked for me was the emotional grounding. Hazel’s narration gives everything weight without turning it sentimental. It’s reflective, a little sad, sometimes funny, and it makes you feel like you’re reading memories instead of events. That framing alone elevates the story. The art is doing a ton of heavy lifting. It’s clean but expressive, and somehow makes the strangest characters feel normal within a few pages. The colors and pacing slow things down when they need to breathe and then let violence hit hard and fast when it shows up. Death isn’t flashy here—it’s abrupt, uncomfortable, and final, which I appreciated. Not everything totally landed at a 5-star level for me yet. There’s a lot being thrown at you early—worldbuilding, factions, characters, bounty hunters—and while it mostly works, it still feels like the setup rather than the payoff. I’m invested, but I can tell the real emotional damage is coming later. Still, by the end of this volume, I cared about this family. And that’s the hardest trick any long series has to pull. Strong start, emotionally honest, weird in the best way. I’m in.

I was scared after the hiatus if the story would still be as amazing as before and I can confidently say it is!
Love how the story didn't remaing stagnant with the years but grew and expanded and came back to us richer and fuller and with a great ensamble of characters. I was especially surprised with alana's character growth during issues, (view spoiler)[ she has suffered because of marko's death but she has stepped up as a mother and she is willing to do whatever it takes to make them survive. I love how you can tell fiona staples' style evolved a little bit over the years and i think it suits the character's growth.
Saga has seen so many tragic moments but none as big as the ending of the last volume and the sadness of that event permates each page of this volume (view spoiler)[ and its what makes the ending of this volume even more heartbreaking (hide spoiler)]. I hope we can see a little bit of happiness in their future and not just sadness.
