I've generally stopped reading histories of Native American interactions with Europeans because they can seem like a litany of depredations and revenge killings. So, while that is a part of this story, I liked being able to get into the mind of the characters who faced all of this. I like that he presented Native and French characters as individual people with varying interests and thought processes, not just stereotypes of their groups. It makes me think about the interaction between our own worldview and our daily activities.
