Bridgerton: Romancing Mr Bridgerton (Bridgertons Book 4) Inspiration for the Netflix Original Series Bridgerton: Penelope and Colin's story

Julia Quinn2009
The fourth book in Julia Quinn's globally bestselling, Regency-set, Bridgerton Family series, now the inspiration for the Netflix series Bridgerton by Shonda Rhimes. Welcome to Colin and Penelope's long-awaited story . . . ________________________________________ Everyone knows that Colin Bridgerton is the most charming man in London . . . Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend's brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn't know him at all. Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can't seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same - especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat - or his promise of a happy ending? I wish I read this before watching the season (which was the plan). I was just very underwhelmed, mainly because I don’t really like Penelope and I had an idea of how it was going to turn out. But nonetheless it was still a good read!

Penelope is truly one of the best female characters up to this point. However, Colin was a huge disappointment, I think the fact that he demonstrated violence, exclusively against Penelope, multiple times, while ALL the other male protagonists didn't, even though they were older – and were expected to be more conservative – set me off completely.

I haven’t finished a book that was this captivating in SO long. penelope & colin’s love story was so seamlessly written and beautiful. I ate that shit up. I loved every second. and now I’m sad it’s over.

So happy I was able to read Colin and Penelope’s story before the new season came out. While the story of them as a couple was cute and I enjoyed seeing how it all came together from a situation that happened in both the books and show. While I didn’t enjoy the miscommunication that came from the whistledown situation I did like their story but I’m thinking the show may do some things differently. Or I’m at least hoping it will.

really enjoyed the first half of this book but that second half was a bit repetitive. they were fighting about whistledown a lot which to me got a little boring. when they finally got past that it was good though.

I love Penelope and Eloise, they have such an amazing friendship and stick together through all times and Lady Danbury is just the best. But Colin almost made me quit the book he reacted so unfair towards Penelope and treated her badly i almost could not bear it even after he confessed his love to her and they married he was just cruel to her because he had not sorted his stuff out

This book kept me on the edge of my seat for most of it. There are some parts that reach a slow point, but overall, the plot is unpredictable. Colin and Penelope make an interesting couple in the way their story unfolds. One of my top 3 in the Bridgerton series so far (still haven't read Gregory's book yet). I definitely recommend this one and I think it's one of the best out of the series.

I was rooting for Colin and Penelope and their book is amazing but a bit disappointing ? Penelope spends most of the book dreaming about Colin who is a bit too whiny. But I loved the end. And Lady Danbury is the absolute best!

He smiled, and suddenly she knew that his words were true. Everything would be all right. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but soon. Tragedy couldn't coexist in a world with one of Colin's smiles.

"Love grows and changes every day. And it isn't like some thunderbolt from the sky, instantly transforming you into a different man. I know Benedict says it was that way for him, and that's just lovely, but you know, Benedict is not normal."

She had been born for this man, and she'd spent so many years trying to accept the fact that he had been born for someone else.

To be proven wrong was the most exquisite pleasure imaginable.

He supposed he should have deemed the evening a failure for that reason alone, but in all truth, he couldn't quite bring himself to do so.

After all, he'd spent the better part of five minutes holding her hand.

She turned to Colin with a smile. "She's very clever, you know."

"I know," he replied, a strange, new pride brimming within him.

...Penelope Featherington was not the same woman he used to know.

Or maybe she was, and he had changed.

Which made him feel even worse, because if that was the case, then Penelope had been interesting and lovely and kissable years ago, and he hadn't the maturity to notice.

Page 181

But he sensed that Penelope's feelings depended on his next words, and at some point in the last ten minutes, her feelings had become very important to him.

He made her more confident, more daring. He made her more... herself. Or at least the herself she wished she could be.

Her mother loved her. She knew her mother loved her. And she loved her mother back.

It was just that sometimes she didn't much like her mother.

And so, on an otherwise unremarkable Friday afternoon. in the heart of Mayfair, in a quiet drawing room on Mount Street, Colin Bridgerton kissed Penelope Featherington. And it was glorious.
