Soft Thorns

I approached this collection with the anticipation of a vibrant poetry garden, but found myself navigating patches of wildflowers interspersed with bland, store-bought greenery. The occasional poem, like those whispering of roses and resilience, bloomed with genuine emotion and vivid imagery. However, the frequent presence of two-sentence sentiments, more akin to affirmations than artistic expression, left me longing for a deeper poetic exploration.

This is a beautiful collection of poems and truly captures trauma, love, and just being a women. It's powerful and I loved reading the authors journey.

Bridgett Devoue is a poet with a large social media following whose work focuses on themes of body image, contemporary feminism, coping with assault, and the intensity of young love and loss. Devoue pours her heart and soul into this poetry collection and it shows. Her words pack a punch while telling a story that many women will find a little of their own in. Poetry is sharing gorgeously woven words to describe feelings and situations that are hard to depict otherwise. And while this collection may remind readers of other poetry collections, which use a similar style of prose, that shouldn't discount the courage and emotion stored between these pages.

I thought it was a good collection but I didn't think it was anything to write home about. It seemed like a collection of short posts that would make for a great instagram account but that doesn't necessarily mean it should be put into a book. It had some good points and it was relatable but overall was just okay to me.
