Where do I begin ? Almost 400 pages of pure pain. A Masterpiece. 6 stars read.

I’ve read The Mixtape at the beginning of they year and fell really in love with Brittainy C. Cherry writing style and her book. And yet again I’m in love with the book, it’s clearly one of the best reads I’ve had in a long time and overall of my life.

The book is about Starlet, a student who wants to be perfect to honour her mom. And she is. She is literally perfection. I love her so so much. She represents a lot of us, with her sensibility and her want to be perfect, not for her but her parent, which is kind of (super) hard. Not to spoil but she will meet Milo, who lost his mom and he’s kinda a wreck. And they instantly click together, by all means :)
I absolutely adore their love and relationship. Even though they’re both going through a lot, they’re the cutest ever, especially Starlet. And it feels so refreshing seeing a plus size woman being loved like this, without being fetishised or else. Just a pure form of love, and healthy love. I’m so jealous of them and their love ; it made me cry a little but I love them so so much.

I already said that but a MMC obsessed with the FMC is literally my favorite thing in the world. I love it so much, seeing a man so obsessed with his love, the woman of his dreams is SO good, so special. But how Milo loves Starlet ? Please, I’m so jealous. He literally worships every single parcel of her and treats her like a queen and I love it. That’s a really worthy book boyfriend.
The spicy scenes were also really really good…!!! He really adores her body and we really felt it and loved it!!!
I really adore how Brittainy writes her MMC, there’s something really special and loveable about them. Their love is unconditional and unmatched, they’re perfect. The number of quotes that I have of them… I need me a man written by Brittainy C. Cherry for real !

The book is also about a really heavy subject : grief. It’s always something complicated but the book covered it flawlessly. You really feel every character’s emotions and pain about this topic, it’s so gut wreching. I really bawled my eyes out every 10 pages. But I enjoyed it, seeing everyone healing’s phase and how everyone healing is different.
I loved everyone’s goodwill and caring in the book. They would do everything to not let down someone in suffering. It was just so healthy, I felt it to my core.
As a person going through a loss right now, this book was even more important and special for me because every conversation about grief went directly to my heart and soul. It was healing and really comforting. The way everything was worded felt right to my soul and thanks Brittainy for that.

I simply adore this book and will recommend it to every person I know.

Brittainy delivered a raw, emotional, thought-provoking, heart-gripping, breath-taking, sob-fest inducing story that, while it's a stunning romance, opens the door to discuss grief, and sheds a real look of going through a grief journey, as well as finding the path towards healing.

“You look like a woman who should be sitting on my face.”

Star and Milo meet at a frat party and the click is instantaneous. After their one-night-stand, they see each other again when Star arrives at Milo's English class as a student-teacher and to be his tutor to help him graduate. While Milo is on a self-destructive path, Star is there to shine a light in this life. While their ages are close, it's still forbidden for them to be together. But how can someone so good that is helping Milo fix his self-destructive ways be so bad and forbidden for him?

“I just wanted you to realize that you are everything I’d ever want in a person, and if I could, I would kiss you for the rest of my life without a second of hesitation or doubt.”

Anything I say about this story will fall short, but I'm going to try. I had no idea Brittainy's stories were like this, so now I'm going to dive into her backlist, because this was a breath-taking new adult romance that I know I won't forget. Milo and Star have gone through so much at such a young age, both knowing very well what loss and grief is.

“I’m learning that time passing doesn’t make it easier. Sometimes it just makes the grief quieter.” [...] “You can’t outwork grief. Sometimes, healing comes from the allowance of darkness.”

The depiction of Mental Health, specifically Depression, was handled with so much care and sensitivity, while still being brutally honest on the effects and the toll it takes on one's life.

Sometimes one had to break into a million pieces in order for healing to be able to begin.

If what Milo was going through wasn't enough, life decided to throw another curve-ball at him. And I was so glad he had Star to help him navigate it all. His support system grew in the best of ways, and I was a complete mess! Books like this one are memorable, not only for the wonderful story, but because it made me cry and sob!

I've read many books throughout the years and I can count on two hands the books that have made me cry. This one certainly did that. It gripped my heart and kept squeezing and squeezing, but then it healed it in a cathartic way that is truly unforgettable.

“One day, I’m going to love you out loud, and it will be the best day of my life. I promise, Starlet. I promise.”

This story has some very light moments, such as the beginning of the book when they meet, as well as Star's friend and Milo's friend group. I would have definitely loved to see more of them all together, especially with Starlet; they all brought a lightness to this angsty story.

 will have you on a choke-hold from beginning to end. Grab your tissues, prepare your favorite hot beverage, ignore the world, because this story deserves your undivided attention. You'll laugh, cry, sob, get your heart broken and healed a few times, but will the ending be worth it? Infinity percent.

The Coldest Winter by Brittainy Cherry is a beautiful and heartbreaking tale depicting love's power to heal. Cherry, with her signature style, created a story aimed at captivating her readers. Anyone choosing to pick up The Coldest Winter should prepare to shed a few tears along the way.

The story, which moved at a steady pace, dealt with some hard-hitting issues. Grief over the loss of a loved one, substance abuse, and depression. The story also shows that not everyone handles grief the same way. For some persons grief pushes them to pursue activities they feel will honor the person they loss, while some find themselves on a downward spiral. 

The hero and the heroine featured in this compelling tale will slowly capture your heart. Soon you will want to root for Milo and Starlet’s happily ever after, despite the forbidden nature of their relationship. It may have started out as a one-night stand, but fate had other plans for these two. Starlet came into Milo’s life at the point where he needed someone to believe in him and show him unconditional love. Losing his mom shook him up so badly, he began engaging in destructive activities. Also, it didn’t help that his father failed him by choosing to numb his pain with alcohol. Strangely enough, it was one of those destructive activities led to his meeting the woman who would save him from the destructive path.  

I loved Milo and Starlet’s interactions, which were sprinkled with a dash of humour. This added levity to an otherwise serious tale. They both suffered the loss of a loved one, which aided in their ability to relate to each other. One could sense the genuineness of their love for each other based on the sacrifices they willingly made for each other. I found them to be quite mature for their ages. At a point I forgot was reading about a nineteen-year-old hero and a twenty-one-year-old heroine.

I adored the story, enjoyed meeting the characters and following them on their journey of self-discovery, healing and love. The Coldest Winter checked all the boxes and I have no hesitation in recommending it to readers interested in a well written forbidden romance.
