I have read this book and series several times before and it is really SO good! I love the plot line and suspense. It’s written in a way that you just have to get the next book to continue with your characters. A must read for lovers of Christian Historical Fiction.

**Update** There is nothing wrong with this book. I simply did not engage with any of the characters the second time around. The story stretched way too long and covered far too much territory. This book and the remainder of the series did not survive round two of the purge from my personal collection.

I enjoyed this book. It's hard to write a review though because while I enjoyed it, this book did not grip me. It was something that I could easily put down. However, there's nothing glaringly wrong with the book either. I love history and I love historical fiction so unless a book has wooden characters, unrealistic dialogue, gratuitous language, sex or violence, unbelievable plots or a mixture of any or all of those, I usually enjoy the book. If the book happens to be Christian historical fiction, I'm prone to keep it in my collection as long as it avoids all the terrible clichés that plague Christian fiction. Bodie and Brock Thoene consistently do that.
This book of theirs is no different. The characters are believable. The plot, while stretched at points, does not succumb to cliché or deus ex machina. The relationship of the main characters is satisfyingly frustrating. (I always hate it when miscommunication gets in the way yet that same miscommunication makes the reunion so much better.)
This book does survive my personal library purge. I also do recommend this book for all who enjoy Christian historical fiction. Read authors like the Thoene's not others like Michael Philips or Lori Wick. (Gag!)
