I just want to know why Victoria Aveyard waited till the last book to explain her world... It's just so much better this way. I finally understand what I'm reading. We have a lot of POV and a lot of stories. We have a happy ending to Cal and Mare. We have finally a world rebuilt. We have overcoming tragedy. We even have Clara Farley Barrow making a quick but happy appearance... Why Victoria? 
In the end all I can say is that I appreciate the series and even more this last book. Thank you for this.

3.5 I thoroughly enjoyed all of the short stories/novellas included in this collection, particularly the ones about Evangeline and Mare and Cal. Generally, though, there’s a lot of unnecessary filler content. It was cool, I guess, to see how much Victoria Aveyard developed the history and politics of her world, but in the end, all I really care about is the characters, and I would rather have had another story (ABOUT KILORN PLEASE) than a bunch of maps and a record of who held the Nortan throne.

The beginning of the book sucked tho, those extra novelles? I could not keep my attention on them, skipped most parts of them. 

Page 357 till page 468 is what I came for and those pages brought me many smiles, laughs but also tears of joy and grief.

Sad and happy it’s over.

Okay, so this book was split into two parts, one with the boring ass history pages, and short stories about the main characters, which I lived for. The ending was definitely quite abrupt, and I wanted to read more about the characters. But overall, this book was good.

This was...not as bad as I expected it to be.

That doesn't mean I loved it. It was okay, I guess. My favourites would probably have to be Steel Scars and Iron Heart, because who doesn't want more Farley and Evangeline, am I right?

While I appreciate the fact that a lot of history and maps were included, I still haven't grasped the geography of this world. I don't know if this is because I suck at that particular subject, or because the world-building is just not there. I'm thinking the latter. 

Do I care that Mare and Cal got back together? No.

Did I still think it was weirdly cute? Yes.

One thing I am really happy about is that I have finally let go of this series. It had a lot of ups and downs (mostly downs) but it was entertaining to say in the least. 

I want to thank Joyce so much for buddy reading this whole series with me and helping me get through the books. I really appreciate it, and am looking forward to more buddy reads in the future!

I have never been a huge fan of this series. I only continued reading it because I’m not fond of leaving them midway and I especially like getting some closure about characters. That’s also probably the only reason I read this short story collection, because War Storm didn’t give us a satisfactory ending nor did it complete the arcs of the characters. 

This book starts off with the previously published stories from Cruel Crown, which I was obviously not interested in. The next story called World Behind was probably set during the events of King’s Cage and had new characters whose predicament I couldn’t care less about. Evangeline’s story was interesting, getting to know about her life in Montfort and what her and Elane’s future looks like. But my love hate with her character still continues, and she manages to piss me off while also feeling good that she is getting the life she wanted. The next story was what I really wanted to read - what happens when Mare and Cal meet again. There is still a lot of reconstruction to be done and they are not obligated to the same sides, but it was nice to see them finally come to some form of resolution about their future. Both of them still grapple with the choices they made regarding Maven and while I know that he is a villain, I was glad that they remembered him. The last little story called Farewell definitely made me a little emotional. 

However, it’s the historical accounts that are written throughout the book are what impressed me. We get to know more about how this world of Silvers and Reds came to be, and it was actually very fascinating to see that it’s a post-apocalyptic version of our own. I think I never saw that coming. We also get little tidbits about all the Calore monarchs before Cal and that was interesting. But the best part was at the end, where we see how this world ended up and what happened to all these characters in the future. I don’t wanna spoil it but it’s that final historical account that gave me the closure I needed. 

Obviously if you are a diehard fan of the Red Queen series, you should definitely read this book. Otherwise, I don’t know if it’s worth the price. Despite my curiosity, I would not have read it if not for my library copy.

Ik a lotta people don't read novellas(Inc me) but this on puts a lot of things in perspective so if u completed the series, u need to read this for yourself

           I didn't care much about the politics parts of the book, I didn't have the will to read more information about the kingdoms but I found myself surprised with how much I enjoyed these short stories, it was filled with perspectives of the characters I found really interesting. 

Reading the story of Coriane and Tib, made my heart ache and my hate for Elara grew. I wish Coriane got the life she deserved and I wish Cal got to know his mother the way his father and uncle knew her. I enjoyed reading about how Farley and Shade met but I was disappointed we didn't get more about their relationship. I wanted more, especially because I took a liking to Farley and Shade so early on in the series. I loved Ashe and Lyrisa's story so much, I could read a whole book about them. Evangeline is a striking character who I'd usually take a liking to, however I was a bit bored reading her piece of the book. 

I'm so happy Cal and Mare found their way back to each other but Cal crying over Mavens death at his grave hurt and I hated how that was the last thing read in his perspective. I'm again heartbroken by Maven and left wondering if he could have been saved because he said so himself, the part of him untouched by his mother was still somewhere deep inside. But after that chapter, the last few pages of the book actually made me really happy. The war ended, Cal and Mare had 2 kids named after their passing loved ones and Clara has Shades ability to teleport. I'll admit it was a pretty satisfying ending. 

Overall I think this book is my favourite in the whole red queen series. Even though I had a hard time reading these books, I'm kind of sad that it's over now

1-2 stars? I really cannot talk about this series anymore. It went from being one of my favorites, to absolutely disappointing to read the final installment. So when I found out there was a novella bind up, I had hoped some issues I had with the last book would be resolved. However, I am still left feeling bitter so maybe I should have waited a longer time before attempting to read all five new novellas. Maybe I will revisit them in the future, but probably not.

This was honestly such a good collection of short stories and gave so much closure. I'm a sucker for backstory and small details and this certainly provided. I especially like the couple pages at the end telling about the future, it made me smile to see how far these teenagers go :)

by far, my favorite novella from this book is Queen Song. it is so beautifully written, yet heartbreaking, and it will most likely shatter you into pieces even if we all already know how it ends.

even with the rollercoasters of emotions you are most likely to encounter while reading, the last pages will just make you go all 🥺💖✨. though it may sound way much well-resolved for a series of books with all the conflicts and destruction, it wraps it up simply and fittingly, and still gives a little bit of a well-deserved happy ending to the characters, while honoring everything they’ve been through.

But maven deserved better. He really did. He was still there. Part of him hadn’t been destroyed. And he kept that a secret to help his brother. 😭
I sobbed the last four chapters. I can’t believe this is really over. 😓
