finally, Lena is redeeming herself a little in my eyes, I didn't want to throttle her in this book! And Will Trent is just the nicest, love him. Really enjoyed the plot as well

This book starts off how the others in the series have, with a death that sparks the mystery for the rest of the book, however, this one is quite different. This story focuses much more on the characters amd the drama that fills their lives, it ties quite a bit into the Grant County series. This one was definitely more of a drama than a thriller to me.

This was so damn good. We finally get to meet Lena, and boy howdy what a character. Seeing Sara, Lena, and Will all together was a really great dynamic. I really enjoy how real these characters feel, how they are flawed but still likable. Just very human.

This book made me want to read Sara Linton's series before I continued on with Will Trent. I just need to know more of her/Lena's/Grant County's backstory!

This fourth Will Trenton Book intersects with the author’s Grant County series following a significant event. Since I have not read those books, my experience was more like Will’s, stepping into the middle of things and having to get to the truth despite the human entanglements and emotions that often get in the way. 

And it did feel as though I had missed something. The characters were tense and near a breaking point right from the start, which gave an unusual and intense energy to this well-crafted mystery. Also interesting to read about some cops not necessarily following the rules during this time of ongoing protests to defund police departments throughout the US. 

Without Angie or Faith in a significant role, we had an opportunity to focus more on Will. He’s a multi-layered, complex character that I quite like following. I’m looking forward to reading what happens next.
