T.J. Klune

Can the Bennett Pack survive another onslaught from a seemingly all-powerful foe? The adventures of the Green Creek werewolves come to an end in Brothersong, the fourth and final volume of the Green Creek Series by TJ Klune.

Brothersong

The beloved fantasy romance sensation by New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune, about love, loyalty, betrayal, and joy. The Bennett family has a secret: They're not just a family, they're a pack. Brothersong is Carter Bennett's story. In the ruins of Caswell, Maine, Carter Bennett learned the truth of what had been right in front of him the entire time. And then it—he—was gone. Desperate for answers, Carter takes to the road, leaving family and the safety of his pack behind, all in the name of a man he only knows as a feral wolf. But therein lies the danger: wolves are pack animals, and the longer Carter is on his own, the more his mind slips toward the endless void of Omega insanity. But he pushes on, following the trail left by Gavin. Gavin, the son of Robert Livingstone. The half-brother of Gordo Livingstone. What Carter finds will change the course of the wolves forever. Because Gavin’s history with the Bennett pack goes back further than anyone knows, a secret kept hidden by Carter’s father, Thomas Bennett. And with this knowledge comes a price: the sins of the fathers now rest upon the shoulders of their sons. The Green Creek Series is for adult readers. Now available from Tor Books. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

as an ending to the series and the overarching plot, I actually liked this, although some of the finer points (gavin leaving his father so easily, carter being allowed to stay in the cabin with gavin at all, the end battle being fairly short, why livingstone was winning the end leg of the battle at all when he was outnumbers 10+ to 1, etc) were confusing.

as a romance novel, I wanted a bit more. the romance part was rushed, and we didn’t really get to see as much of it as I hoped. I like Gavin and Carter, but I think one of my problems is this book stripped Carter of much of his persona from the last books and also Gavin was entertaining but I would have liked maybe a little more self discovery, like the scene with the diva shirt. a lot of his development was necessarily off page, kind of a limitation of the first person narration, but I wanted to see more of him and more of them getting to know each other before the love. they really didn’t know each other as people at all before they declared undying love, and it fell flat.

the scenes with the brothers, the focus of the book, were good; I liked that we got a bit more of joe because he’s a complicated character we see very little internal life from. he’s the only brother without a book of his own. I’ve often wished if they were gonna do the “joe carter kelly and gordo left for three years” thing that it was a separate book on its own narrated by joe and not a part of wolfsong.

I think the ending is fitting, and I’m glad I finished the series!

I didn’t want this to be over. I wish I could go back and reread this entire series again for the first time.

I also kinda want to know more about Chris and Tanner haha.

I skimmed through the last half of this book because I was getting so bored with the whole premise of the series. Again, there’s great moments between the characters, and the fight scenes were exciting. But, all of my complaints from the first three books still stand. On top of those complaints, I realized a quarter of the way through this book that all four books follow the same formula: character leaves/goes missing, angst, character gets found, angst, love, big fight scene, wrap-up. And yeah, the ouroboros theme, I get it, I do. Didn’t do it for me. I expected more from this series from how much others loved it, and it fell pretty flat for me.

What a superb ending to such a highly emotional series about the humanity, flawed and otherwise, of werewolves and witches.

I loved how the story circled back to the beginning and we got to know more about Thomas. And now, I think Gavin is possibly my 2nd favourite behind Ox.

But like all the others, I just wish that I was more capable of putting my thoughts into words because for me this one got me in a very similar way to Wolfsong and all the callbacks, as well as Carter and Gavins story was overwhelming to me.
