Burn for Me A Hidden Legacy Novel
Reviews

back to reading my ugly ass paranormal books <3 i didn’t LOVE this one, but i also didn’t love the first kate andrews book either. i did enjoy this one a lot, i just thought it was fun and fast paced. i didn’t love her inner monologue, i found bits of it to be pretty juvenile. but like at the end of the day, two really hot powerful people defeated the bad guy and that is what really matters. urban fantasy is fun because you don’t need to think too hard about the world building since this series is set in Houston Texas and not some weird Gaelic named far far away island but it’s also far enough away from my current reality where I can disconnect completely

4.5 stars Ilona Andrews does it again! Burn For Me is a thrilling urban fantasy story with great storytelling and with a world so intriguing that there is no way this story can be a standalone! If you have never read any books of this magical author duo, please ignore the covers and read them. They are funny, exciting, with great plot and world. And a little romance to spice things up!

It’s too hard not to compare it to Kate Daniels series and it’s just not as good 😅

In Burn For Me, we have a fiery stunning story where the reader is drawn into a unique world that Ilona Andrews has introduced for us. Our Heroine, Nevada, has been working hard to keep her late father's business of detective work alive. But her family's home and business is on the line, when she is ordered that she has to obtain, a dangerous criminal...a cop killer and is very unpredictable and moody. Then she meets Rogan....one of the most lethal of men, rich and has the honor of prestige and power. No one dares crosses him except for Nevada, who fights him on every turn despite the desire that starts to erupt between them. This story does end with a bit of a teaser, I have a feeling this series will be similar to her Kate Daniels series, where we see their relationship deepen as it further goes along. I loved the chemistry between these two. Its very raw and powerful, and we see the tone of the story isn't about to let you set this one aside until you read the last page. What a page turner, and I was very intrigued to see where this book was leading up to in the beginning. What was even more intriguing was seeing the way these two develop a tenuous relationship. It doesn't start off easy, but as they work together to bring down a most dangerous enemy, they also uncover a hidden passion. Whew what a story this turned out to be and even though I didn't care for the HFN type of ending, it does lead us to get excited for the second book. What I grew to admire about this story was seeing the way that it evolves and shapes. Definitely a must read for PNR and UF lovers.

Reread 7/2020 : I ate it up. Again. Ops. *** After reading : Well, damn. They went and captivated me again.... need book #2 now I have read most of the Kate Daniels series and loved it and iked an unrelated book. Something tells me, I am probably gonna enjoy this as well...

3.5

Can Rogan be anymore of an ass but at the same time sexy. He is unapologetic, stubborn, smartass and love him for that. He does not make threats or promises he states facts. No one tells him no and thinks he can do whatever he wants. He does not feel rules apply to him. If he wants something he buys it. If he can not buy something he takes it. He has no sensitivity towards others. If he does something good for someone there is a reason that will benefit him. He is a powerful man in this world that the fabulous wife-husband writing team Ilona Andrews have created. For most of his traits I understand he is the way he is. You can not show weakness when you are high-powered. Now for some of his other traits I am curious about. Lets not forget you annoy him and he will kill you simple as that. The best part I adore is how he loves to mess with Nevada. Nevada has some of the craziest thoughts about dragons relating to Rogan. The devotion and love she has for her family are amazing. She is opposite of Rogan as she has empathy for others. She does not think before she speaks that lead to some fun moments with Rogan. It was so easy to fall for her character. She has no problem telling Rogan no or putting him in his place. I had so much fun reading Burn For Me. Action, humor, maybe a small burn romance in the making. Since Rogan and Nevada are working a case together he does have a good amount of page time. Their banter was entertaining and they had perfect chemistry. Secondary characters were so much fun. Her family added so much to the story. Her grandma was my favorite. Look forward to reading book 2.

Damn. Didn't think I would like it this much. Next please March 17th: Still very good. Love the dinamic between Nevada and Connor but damn loved it more the first time around but still a solid 4 star

The FMC was a pragmatic, mature, level headed badass.

Let’s get two things out of the way real quick: First, the book cover. I cannot even begin to comprehend what happened there. What publisher in their right mind would choose such a trashy-romance-looking cover for a UF book by Ilona Andrews? I just don’t get it. [ETA: it turns out the Andrews had chosen an alternate cover for this book but several retailers thought it wouldn't sell {insert major eye roll here} so they went for this one instead.] Second, the inevitable Kate Daniels comparison. I have to admit I had KD in mind when I started reading Burn for Me but quickly decided to stop comparing the books and just enjoy what I was reading. Burn for Me is a great introduction to the Hidden Legacy series but it is a much lighter read than KD. Granted, as it is the first instalment in a new series, the world building will probably expand and become more complex, which I am really looking forward to. So, back to Burn for Me. This book was so much FUN to read! I really enjoyed the premise of the book: a serum that revealed different types of magic inherent to humans about a hundred years ago, the destruction of said serum and then the use of genetics to pass the magic from one generation to another. Highly magical (and very wealthy) families are prepared to go to great lengths to keep their bloodlines intact and increase their magic. Now that’s one fantastic premise! The world building is great and I love the mix of magic with the military, heavy weaponry, armored everything… It makes for a very original world. Then we have our heroine, Nevada Baylor, who has been running the family PI business since her father died. I don’t want to go into much detail here but as the story begins the business is on shaky ground and Nevada is doing her best to keep the family afloat. Nevada is a fantastic character, she is straightforward, principled and snarky as hell. I loved her from the very beginning. She lives in a huge warehouse with her hilarious grandmother, her mother, her two teenage sisters and her two cousins. They all contribute to the business in their own way and make a great family. I really enjoyed their interactions. Now for Mad Rogan, our mass murderer hero. I mean, just how cool is that? A mass murderer/sociopath hero?! Only the Andrews I tell you! (view spoiler)[To be honest, Rogan might be ruthless but after having read the book he doesn’t seem to be much of a sociopath. He was in the army and killed lots of people during the war, does that mean he qualifies as a mass murderer? I don’t know. (hide spoiler)] So. The guy is sizzling hot. Sorry, I meant sizzling hot. There are a couple of scenes there (view spoiler)[(first when he shows Nevada what it means to be a –hum– Tactile then the whole scene that leads to their first kiss and…) (hide spoiler)] that had me swooning, sighing & panting. The works. I can't imagine what will happen the day these two go beyond the kissing stage^^ *rubs hands in anticipation* One thing that did bother me about Rogan: the never-ending descriptions of how hot and sexy he is. Amazing abs, great chest, broad shoulders, strong biceps, incredible eyes… I got it the first three times, no need to re-hash it over and over again. But that’s a minor quibble really. Put Nevada and Rogan together, shake well and you get great chemistry and fantastic banter. So many great lines there, I wish I could quote them all but there wouldn’t be enough space in this review so I’ll just pick three: “And let’s be honest, you weren’t exactly harmed. I even took you home.” “You dumped me on my doorstep. According to my mother, I looked half dead.” “Your mother exaggerates. A third dead at most.” I stared at him. Wow. Just wow. “Why can’t you just slice them to pieces like that chopstick?” “Because my telekinetic magic doesn’t work on living things.” [...] Oh. “So the best way to fight you is to strip naked and attack?” His eyes flashed with a wicked light. “Yes. You should try it and see what happens.” Well, I did walk right into that one.“Mr Rogan,” I frosted my voice over. “What I put into my body is my business.” Okay, that didn’t sound right.Burn for Me has it all: action, suspense, lots of magic, great characterization, world building with lots of potential and sizzling hot chemistry between the two main characters. I’m definitely planning to be read it again before its sequel comes out in 2015!

http://laceysloveofliterature.blogspo... The first book of the year I finished is Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews. After reading the Kate Daniels series I could not wait to begin another Ilona Andrews book. However, after reading it, I jumped straight on google/goodreads to find out when the next one would be out... 2017? Really guys? You hooked me into this great book and world, and are now testing my patience (which I lack). Okay, slight rant over. Anyway, Ilona Andrews does not disappoint in this first instalment of her new series. I'm not going to lie but I like this book much better than the Kate Daniels series - don't ask me why, I don't know... But this first book was kick-ass! Nevada is similar yet different to Kate in many ways. She's an investigator, but mostly she's a loyal and loving daughter and provider for her family, taking over after her father. Nevada is used to ousting cheating spouses, so when she's ordered by her Boss to bring in a homicidal, psychopathic pyrokinetic, it's slightly out of her league. She joins up forces with Mad Rogan, who is after his younger cousin, an accomplice to the pyrokinetic. Mad Rogan. Sigh. This guy is just so incredibly badass, and regardless of what Nevada says, he's a good guy deep down. He's loyal. Helpful. Charming. This guy is just incredibly swoon-worthy (and now I have to wait two years to get my next fill... Boo, that sucks!) This book is just full of action, slight romance and just general badassness. This book rocks. You guys need to go read this if you haven't already!

Don't let the horrible cover fool you. Burn For Me was a fun page-turner hinting at a much larger plot. The magic system is very intriguing and I'm looking forward to how much more the world building will expand. As far as the MC and her love interest are concerned, they leaned a bit too much into the alpha trope but I loved Nevada's desperate attempts at rationality. It's refreshing to not see a MC fall all over themselves just because they saw a well-developed chest lmao. Rogan is a little overbearing but I feel like there's a lot that remains to be revealed about him so I'm totally on board. Anyways, if you're looking for pure entertainment, this book is a good place to start!

This book is just as fantastic second time around. It's addictive and action packed and the question of if I can swoon a little for a dude who is probably a psychopath has been answered. I will never get over the covers for this series bit if you can overlook a fringe book cover you're in for a wild ride.

This is the second book for my video 'Reading Romance for the First Time'! Want my full thoughts? Check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcHU78gdK9s&t=1s

4.5; Great world-building with the magic; Enjoyed the action scenes; Romance was slow burn-almost too slow. I can't wait for the next one.

OMG! This book was downright awesome. I cannot believe I took this long to read an Ilona Andrews novel. I have read a few books within the urban fantasy genre which I enjoyed, but this my favourite. What the book is aboutNevada Baylor is a private investigator with Baylor Investigations, which is run by her family. Unfortunately, the business is facing financial challenges and as a result; it was mortgaged to the hilt. The company who holds the mortgage issued an order for her to take on an assignment, which may or may not lead to her death. She had no choice but to accept the assignment as failure to do so would lead to the loss of the business and her family home.In the midst of the chaos, she is kidnapped by Mad Rogan, a man who was rich, powerful and feared by all whom he came in contact with. They are both after the same target, so working together seemed the logical thing to do. However, their unexpected partnership will lead to them discovering things about themselves and developing feelings they never thought was possible with each other. What I enjoyedSuperb Writing: The manner in which the story was presented made me feel as if I was a part of the story. I loved he uniqueness of the setting and the premise. The story is set in a world that is similar to ours, with one main difference, magic. In the 1800s, a serum was developed that gave humans magical powers and since that time magic has reigned supreme. Years later, you have a world where some humans have interesting and unique powers. There were those whose powers were stronger than the norm who are called primes.Delightful Characters: Nevada is a strong, brave, honest, kick-ass heroine. From the moment I was introduced to her, I knew I would love her. She cares deeply for her family and would do anything to protect them. She is not the type to behave like a damsel in distress. While working on this case she would come to realise that there is more to her powers than she originally believed.Conner Rogan AKA Mad Rogan is a formidable and complex man. He was former military and a trained killer. He has no qualms about killing when the need arises. However, I soon came to realize that underneath all that craziness lay a heart of compassion. Few were privy to this side of him.I loved every moment spent with the supporting cast of characters. I loved how Nevada’s family had her back. They had a bond that was stronger than any magic. It is rare for me to like the villain in a story, but this time around, I could not help but like Adam. He was cocky and entitled, but there was something about him that I found endearing.Fun and entertaining story: There was tons of action, and thrilling moments to keep me on my toes. It moved quickly sparing me no time to be bored. There was humour to help lighten the heavy moments. There was loads of sexual tension permeating the pages of this story, but there was no intimacy and no romance. Not that I am complaining. It is evident that there is an attraction there, but with all what was happening there would have been no to explore their feelings for each other. I am curious to discover how this aspect of the story will eventually play out.I was happy with the ending. Thankfully, it was not a cliff-hanger. The situation in this instance was adequately wrapped up, however, there was a shocking revelation in the epilogue which left me with questions. Thankfully I am able to proceed to next book in the series right away so my questions will be answered soon.VerdictOverall, this is a great read and one, which I highly recommend. Question. How did y'all read this before the entire series was published?! HOW? How did you not lose your mind?! THAT ENDING. Never have a wanted to smack and boff a man as much as I've wanted to do so to Mad Rogan. Holy forking shirtballs Batman! Nevada Baylor and her entire family are flippin' fantastic. The world building is amazing. The HEAT between Rogan and Baylor? I'm dead. I think there are plenty of other reviews out there of this series, so I'll just leave this here so I can get going on White Hot. K bye.

Written by Ilona Andrews, Burn for Me is the first in the Hidden Legacy series (which, honestly, I’m not a fan of that series name), and follows Nevada Baylor, PI, as she is hired to bring in a rich, supernaturally powerful, playboy who possibly started an arson and killed a man. She has no idea the powerful players she is about to get involved in. Okay, now let’s talk about the other characters without discussing the plot points. One of the things I need to point out now is that I didn’t read the back of the book before reading this book. So I didn’t know who the romantic interest was going to be for Nevada. No idea. And with that, other than the prologue, you don’t meet the romantic interest until about… I think it was 90 pages in? A good ways in. And he doesn’t really act like a romantic lead. With that, I loved all of the characters in this novel and the depth they had. I liked the slow burn in this book, and throughout the next two. Nevada is a fun character, and Rogan is very much your classic rich bad boy who doesn’t think he is good enough for the girl, but still really, really needs to protect her. The support characters are also great, though I wish we could get more with Nevada’s family. They kind of get left behind as side kicks while she goes off and does her own thing, which it sounds like wasn’t the standard procedure before all of this happened. I would say, the one improvement I would want from this book, is I’d honestly would want a longer book where we got to know the characters a lot more. But, with that, the pacing was wonderful and the characters delightfully sassy. If you enjoy action and adventure, with just a touch of romance, this book is for you. I can tell you, though, if you aren’t okay with mature scenes, then this is the book to stop at. Going forward, the next two books do have very mature scenes.

Originally posted at Booklovers For Life So this is Ilona Andrews’ long-awaited Avon story and holy smokes, I loved it. I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. I honestly had no idea I would love Burn for Me this much. But I shouldn’t have expected anything less from Ilona Andrews. Ilona Andrews is one of my all-time favorite authors ever – their Kate Daniels series is like no other. And let me tell you, I didn’t even love Magic Bites (Kate Daniels book 1) as much as I loved Burn for Me! This just goes to show how freaking awesome author duo Ilona Andrews is, and that I will pretty much read anything and everything they write. This new series had everything I could have wanted – fantastic world building, addicting characters, badass fight scenes – but there’s also that extra something in this book that makes Burn for Me exceptional and one of the best books I’ve read all year. I was utterly ABSORBED in this book. I couldn’t get enough of this world and these characters. I honestly never wanted this book to end – it’s unique and incredibly well-written. It’s Ilona Andrews at their finest. Nevada Baylor is a heroine I absolutely loved and adored. She’s hilarious, down-to-earth, and so relatable. I connected with her from the start. I loved the goodness and loyalty in her, as well as her inner badass. So who and what exactly is Nevada? Well, she’s an investigator and she’s in charge of her family’s investigation firm. And in this world where certain people have magic powers, and the higher level power you have, the more respected and rich you are, Nevada has the power to detect lies. Her job and power are perfect complements, but that doesn’t make the investigations she gets involved in easy. In fact, her latest case, which is to find a rogue Prime (which is the highest level of magic a magic user can have), lands her deep into danger and trouble. Connor “Mad” Rogan. This man. I am utterly in love with him. His character is the thing that MADE this book for me. Mad Rogan is one of the most powerful, if not THE most powerful, magic user in their world, and he’s looking for the same rogue Prime as Nevada. He is the embodiment of raw power – he is intense and dangerous and Nevada is ridiculously attracted to him. The two women saw him and stopped talking. He cut right through the layers of civilization, politeness, and social snobbery to some preternatural female sense that said, “Dominant male. Danger. Power. Sex.“ Nevada likens Mad Rogan to a dragon, which is accurate. Their roads inevitably cross and they reluctantly form an alliance to find Adam Pierce. I L.O.V.E.D. the dynamics between Nevada and Mad Rogan. They are hilarious together and the sexual tension between them is off the charts. The way my body came to attention when he was near scared me too. He turned me on by just looking at me. Having sex with him would be an experience I would never forget, and some insane part of me wanted that experience. I wanted to see him naked. I wanted to have all of that overwhelming masculine intensity focused on me. I’d never before had a reaction like that to a man. I loved Burn for Me. I’ve already reread it countless times, and I highlighted so much of this book. I loved Mad Rogan, the insanely powerful man that he is, and I have no doubt that he’ll get even better as the series goes on. I absolutely can’t wait for more from this new, fantastic series from Ilona Andrews. Quotes are taken from the ARC and are subject to change in the final version. “Just like that. Except that mushrooms don’t bloom. They produce spores.”

That was the scariest thing I had seen in a long time. How was it even possible that he could do this? If he did that to a human being, it would be horrifying.
Mad Rogan looked at me.
I had to say something, do something. Anything.
I pulled out my phone and took a picture of the table.
His eyebrows crept up a tiny bit.
“For my grandmother.” I put the phone on the table and smiled at the waiter. “He broke his chopstick. Could you get us another set?”
For the gran✌️

If only I’d had some paper towels and duct tape lying around. I rolled my eyes. What the hell had he been thinking? He was what, a multimillionaire? And he bandaged himself with a paper towel and duct tape. How did he even know what duct tape was? Maybe he had his own Prime version at the house, stitched with gold and studded with diamonds, just in case he gave himself a paper cut.

We had only three rules. Rule #1: we stayed bought. Once a client hired us, we were loyal to the client. Rule #2: we didn’t break the law. It was a good rule. It kept us out of jail and safe from litigation. And Rule #3, the most important one of all: at the end of the day we still had to be able to look our reflections in the eye
