I read this knowing very little about Roma or Gypsie culture... but even after having read it I don’t feel so much closer to knowing what they’re all about. Which is kind of the whole point?

It is very informative and gives you insight into how they live, where they come from, WHY they do things a certain way etc., but I think the author jumps around too much. There isn’t a lot of context as to why she’s doing this research, who she is, and why she tells us certain things. Then again, I don’t think the book is for that so much as a memoir of her travels and activities with the Roma people all over the world.

Worth a read if your curious about Gypsies.
