I mean. Not entirely sure I could put all my thoughts into words bc it took me so long to actually get through this book bc time? Who is she hehe. <-- local sleep deprived idiot
but for a genre I tend to avoid like the plague, definitely pretty good. I thiiinkk I just got really thrown off by the pacing esp. in the last quarter & (view spoiler)[the -- idk I feel like she barely had a reaction at all to losing her numbers. A littleeee off-putting? I get the whole thing, it's just like it was a cold fact, as if she wasn't losing something that had been w/ her for 17 years & had shaped her entire world from the beginning. It was framed like, solely in terms of Kai & barely really touched on the actual world around her & how that would feel absolutely crazy and insane if that happened. But what do I know!! Also, petty grudge: Kai's an overused name. (hide spoiler)]
I think it's funny how long it took me to place the entirety of the Joseph retelling even though later I was like OH RIGHT YEA (view spoiler)[HER NAME IS LITERALLY JOSEPHINE Mara means bitter - which she was - & represents all of Joseph's older brothers / Lily is Benjamin / her father of course is Jacob / her gift is the coat / the whole reckoning scene is obviously Genesis 43-45 / Lev is Potiphar's wife (which I did see then with the robe) / et cetera. It was fun being able to understand pinyin reading this, that's for sure. I'm curious enough to want to read the next book but also I hate love triangles so. Hm. (I actually like Kai.)
