honestly had such high hopes because of the movie but bro i just wound up confused. 5/5 movie but the book??? not so much :P

great book! It was super easy to read and it explored Maren’s (main character) life and journey through people, eating, and coming of age. The only thing about the book is that the ending kinda leaves you unsatisfied. The last chapter/ last pages really just leaves you wanting to learn more about Maren and Lees story. Other than the ending, the book was written really nice and it’s super easy to enjoy:)

If you liked the book I definitely recommend the movie!! It’s a little bit of a different story line & it’s shot beautifully. I liked the ending in the movie better than the book.

I think it’s really ironic and really funny how the author is a vegan but the MC was a cannibal. I don’t know what I was expecting from this book but it definitely wasn’t this. 

This book. This book made me irrationally angry when I finished it. Why? Like why the fuck would you make me read about her eating the one person who stuck by her? He ate Sully for her. Lots of twists as well. I don’t think I was even making predictions anymore.

i unfortunately am a simple woman and love a good cannibalism as a metaphor for love type of thing, however that isn't truly explored in this book as much as i thought. i do want to mention that i watched the movie prior to reading the book. the changes made honestly ruined a little for me considering they arent tiny details and if i read the book first before the movie, i wouldve felt the same regardless. however i still, for the most part, liked the book. marens character is so tragic and she was doomed from the start. i liked her character and i pitied her incredibly since she tried to be more morally correct than say an eater like sully. unfortunately, she is ultimately an eater and the urges take over, it's not her fault she has tragedy in her blood. as for the other eaters we get to know, i hated sully from the beginning and i liked lee and his ability to be honest when he can, yet still has some warmth. i wish the author explored more on eaters in general as well as any reasonings for //why// the eaters we got to know all eat differently. for the most part: maren seemed to eat people who showed interest in her and gave her some care, sully ate people who have died already, and lee ate people he hates. i wonder why that is. now the ending, of course it has to end in tragedy, that i personally believed was known from the start. it's a little heartbreaking cos you really want maren to be able to be a normal teenage girl, but at the end of the day she is an eater. i thought the ending fell super flat and i personally thought it could've had more depth for maren. i did enjoy the movie ending more.

Beautifully sad and grotesque. 

I wish romance were a bigger theme in the book like it was in the film adaptation. I think that's why I'm giving this 4 stars rather than 5. 

The ending was abrupt but I actually kind of liked it like that, there also wasn't much of a character arc and I don't think that's a terrible thing. I don't mind things being left to the imagination, and while I appreciate the small differences between the book and film, I much prefer the film!!! I enjoyed getting to know Maren a little bit more than what the film offered in terms of her background and past experiences as an eater.

Anyway........Maren Yearly you are perfect and I love you (I am you).

i knew what was gonna happen and i’m still screaming and crying and thrashing around

super makkelijk om doorheen te komen en het was geen moment saai. Het was soms wel moeilijk te begrijpen omdat veel indirect gezegd werd. Er waren verwijzingen naar eerder in het boek waar ik niets van begreep. Ik vind ook dat ze de belangrijke momenten duidelijk had kunnen aangeven. Het einde kwam uit het niets en sloeg helemaal nergens op🥲 Voor wat ?? Het maakte het boek 1000x slechter en de manier waarop Maren ermer opging was heel raar en totaal niet hoe ik had verwacht dat ze zou reageren. Door het boek leerde je haar wel kennen dus was het apart toen ze nauwelijks een reactie op wat ze deed, en überhaupt dat ze het deed kwam uit het niets. ☠️ Ik vond echt dat het boek wat dieper in kon gaan op de gevoelens van de karakters want dat had het zoveel beter kunnen maken. De relatie tussen Maren en Lee en hun gevoelens emt zichzelf en elkaar bleven onduidelijk tot het einde😞😞

This was absolutely sick and disgusting. It was also a really good fucking book since it made me feel like throwing up which was what it intended to do. It’s a book I would never really recommend even tho it’s really good since you have to decide on your own if you really feel up to reading it….also lee (my love) idk what to think about him haha

yes this is a book about cannibalism. yes, i enjoyed it. and yes, i did read it because the movie is going to feature timothée chalamet. i will admit all of this because if there's anything that this book taught me, it's to not be ashamed. 

this is one of those books you really shouldn't know too much going into-- the fun of it is the ride. you'll get to know maren, and various other people-eaters along the way. for some, you'll feel sympathy, for others, utter revulsion. and yet, i couldn't help leaving this book feeling charmed.

anyway, for some strange reason which i cannot even attempt to explain, i would recommend giving this a read. it was enjoyable and gross and everything in between. i both eagerly and fearfully await the movie.
