Dang, I wanted to like this book more than I did, I fell in love with Pagan's writing when I read This Won't End Well, and I feel like that novel was a different breed than the rest of their work. 
That being said, these were real fricken characters, flawed, confusing, and selfish. Did it feel like the main character was all " oh poor me" energy? Yes. Was he selfishly loving his best friend's wife the entire time and reading waaay too much into her attention? Also yes. 
But that's what makes it real I suppose.
