I can't believe this was a debut, and at the same time I didn't expect anything less from Fox. Her Crimson Lake series is one of my favorites and I'm glad I checked out her previous one. 

In this one, detective Frank Bennett is partnered with Eden Archer. They are damaged, of course, they have dark secrets (yay!) and they are on the hunt for a serial killer harvesting organs. But it's not just that. The victims are not always innocent, the timelines blur, the characters are twisted.

The balance between the current investigation and the characters' past is perfect and the characters are well fleshed out and imperfect.

This book confirmed that Candice Fox is definitely someone I want to follow anywhere, there are not enough dark thrillers like this one out there. 

The narration was ok but I would prefer to have more options that just Stephen Shanahan for Australian thrillers.
