This manga was absolutely adorable. Everything about it had me gushing or squealing over the characters and the situations they found themselves in.

This is a classic enemies to lovers trope. Onoe is someone I was able to relate to almost immediately. He wasn’t excited or even happy about the sudden change at his job, and he was even less than thrilled to find out his new stakeout partner was the guy he’s consistently competing against, Kaburagi.

The drama in this book was fantastic. It was almost like it was practically falling off the pages and playing directly in front of you. There were situations in which Onoe and Kaburagi had to learn to adjust and recenter themselves for the purpose of their work, and then there were some in which they learned more about each other and grew to define and accept their differences.

I truly enjoyed this manga, and I cannot wait to continue reading through the next volumes. If there was one manga I’d wish to become an anime, it’d definitely be this one.

This was an absolutely amazing read. I just love how light and airy Natsume keeps her characters and the surroundings. 

In this volume we get to delve deeper into Kabu’s and Onoe’s relationship both professionally and romantically. Oh and of course we have an unexpected visitor in Kabu’s sister and I just loved all the mischief she got up to. It also gave us a chance to see a little into Kabu’s childhood and kind of understand his nonchalant demeanor.

What was really important to me was the consistent character growth and relationship growth. In the first manga we saw Onoe constantly try to one-up Kaburagi. Not taking into consideration that Kabu struggles with all the lying and stake-outs a reporter deals with. In this volume, Onoe is trying harder to understand the very aloof Kabu and so he decides to take one of “undercover” missions to help carry Kabu’s burden.

Of course does he tell Kabu that doing this project alone is to help him? Hahah - hell no.

The biggest relationship growth is the lack of communication and understanding that doing something you think is nice and helpful might not be taken that way by the other individual. Onoe and Kabu definitely have a long way to go and their communication Is a little lack-luster but they are trying and in doing so are growing closer.

I just love Onoe and Kabu. They have such an interesting relationship. What I really like is that they can keep their relationship and their work life separate. There is still a lot of growth needed between the characters; however, with each manga introduced they are growing into wonderful individuals both apart and together. 

In this installment of the series we definitely see more of Kabu's protective side and his nurturing nature towards Onoe, especially when a new employee starts to work at the company. With Onoe we still see his need to prove himself with is work but he doesn't realize that he doesn't always need to go above and beyond. It's always interesting seeing these interact and how their relationship flows.

I can't wait to read the next installment.

After reading this, I honestly had to sleep on what rating I wanted to give this baby. I was leaning more towards 3.5/5 stars; however, my CAWPILE rating came out at 4 stars...but at the low end of the 4 star rating, so it was very difficult to choose. After getting a wonderful nights rest (not really) I can say this is getting a 4 star rating! Whoo, go me. Gosh I make it sound like I hit a life goal (maybe I did). 

Anyways, there were a lot of things that I loved and did not love about this BL manga. There really was no grey area for me - either I liked what was going on or I was like "nope". 

What I really loved about this BL manga, that we don't see very often, is that it is definitely plot focused over smexy focused and I enjoyed that. Mostly due to finishing From Blood and Ash and I couldn't deal with all the hot and heavy. 

Onoe was a character I both disliked yet understood. I am not a fan of characters that over-react and freak out about every little thing. If he wasn't moaning about one thing, he was over thinking about something else and it is seen quite often throughout the manga. Poor guy, I honestly thought he would give himself a heart attack. However, Onoe was one character I connected with off the bat.

Onoe is a hard ass worker. He puts in the hours, the research, the time into each of his articles and really get's nothing to show for it. He is constantly put to the backburner with his work and after all those horrendous hours of researching and writing articles they still don't make the front page. So I understand the resentment he is feeling towards his coworker Kaburagi. Kaburagi is consistently praised for his stake-outs and unraveling these huge stories. At one point Onoe's story was put to the last page when he was promised the first page, because Kaburagi's story was "better". 

 

So this rivalry that is going on in Onoe's head (and his many over-reactions) is definitely justified. However, I just wish he wouldn't make it so obvious. 

The plot build was one of the best that I have seen in any BL manga that I have come across. Well besides Coyote, Vol. 2, that book literally hit the head on plot and plot twists. What I really loved was that the physical chemistry built over time in Candy Color Paradox and that it wasn't within the first few pages. We get to see Onoe's thoughts slowly change around Kaburagi and see his inner turmoil with still wanting to hate the man. 

There were some places that were slow and jumped all over the time-line but it definitely gets better.

What is also wonderful is that we get to see the POV of Kaburagi as well; which honestly, I have never seen another manga do before. It was really refreshing since we get to see both sides of the story. 

If you are a fan of slow build romances, work rivalry, funny stake-outs, and more plot than sex than I definitely recommend that you pick up Candy Color Paradox, Vol. 1.

This was absolutely adorable! I love watching Kabu and Onoe's relationship develop. It has to be one of my absolute favourite's. And of course I read this just in time for Volume 5 that released in the English Translation on the 13th! You bet your ass that I pre-ordered it awhile ago....now just waiting patiently for the mailman to deliver said package ⌛ -.-.

I love how far Kabu has come with not only expressing his emotions when it comes to Onoe but his blatant protective nature over Onoe. Kabu has definitely made it clear to many characters, in some way or another, that Onoe is his and he will go far to protect him. It's truly beautiful. And naïve cute Onoe. Sometimes I really want to strangle him for his very trusting personality - especially in a job where you need to be cut-throat and trust no one. But it's a huge part of his personality and these characteristics are what make Onoe special. He stands out from a normal reporter and I love that. 

And I love that the teasing aspect of their relationship is still there but it's just so much sweeter. 

And oh Kasai....gotta love him. 

Also can the art style get any more gorgeous! I just love how beautiful Natsume's style is. And I just love her little chibi characters! They be so cute.
