i have no idea that there's a planned sequel for willing victim that i just let out a strangled squeak when i stumbled upon this book.
cara mckenna is seriously one of erotica writer that understand how to make your story as not just another one of 'insta lust, hard fuck' variation. she deftly spin a story with depth and emotion with a side(s) of blazing hot sex scenes.
what i love most in this sequel was how laurel and flynn progressed as a couple who come together firstly (in willing victim) as having mutual kink and hit it up from there and they grow wonderfully individually and together.
i also appreciate the simplicity in how mckenna wrote them. no fuss, grand action or words which made them read as very honest, realistic persons with issues that does not really define who they are but rather what push them to be better for themselves and for others too. 


lastly if people thought erotica is just another lowbrow genre of fiction without actual depth then clearly they just have not yet discover gems like this one. which is a shame.

a well done sequel! laurel and flynn are such an incredible couple. i adore how realistic everything about this was and the dialogue between flynn and laurel. you can see how they love each other. 10/10, one of my favorite duologies so far.

Having read Willing Victim years ago (and re reading it a few times since) I was so excited to hear about this.

And it so lived up to the expectation for me (which I was so worried it would not)

And while it was not all rainbows and cupcakes, and at times even sad, it was more of a bittersweet sad, and just served to highlight this couples relationship and how in love with each other they were.

It so so much more than a typical romance. It was refreshingly honest and real and, despite, as I say some pretty heartbreaking events, it worked, and in such a way I still finished the book smiling and even more in love with Flynn who remains one of my favourite heroes ever.

An excellent 5 stars. I may have been short, but it was more than enough, I did not feel cheated at the length, I just felt so happy to be reading about this couple again.
