This novel reads like dynasty or a family soap opera. At the middle of the drama there is Elaina Robideaux a prickly tough as nails business woman who wants to prove to her father that she can hold her own in the business. Alex comes along and he is seen by Elaina as a threat to her power however Alex is just looking for a change in pace and doesn't want to be in between the Grant (the controlling family patriarch) and his overachiever daughter. In the mean time Alex also can't deny that he is attracted to Elaina. This is a slow burn grown-up romance that was thoroughly enjoyable. I love that it took place over a year and there were real obstacles and conflicts that made sense. The characters had to grow and change and really earn their HFN. I also appreciated that the surrounding characters were fleshed out and not one dimensional. I loved the cozy factor of dinners with family and shopping trips with her niece. At the same time there was tension just as there would be in any family. There was a fair amount of chemistry between Alex and Elaina too! I think it was just the right amount.
