[read in Dutch] I loved, loved, loved reading this book. Its romantic style and intricate plot sucked me in right from the beginning. This book is best enjoyed with gallons of tea (which you'll forget about and will eminently cool off before you realize hours have gone by and you're actually in need of refreshments), curled up in a corner on a nice and rainy afternoon. You will want to read further, no matter what, and might find yourself skimming through parts just because you need to know what happens next and you need to know it now! Of course, you'll reread the skimmed parts to find yourself enriched with even more details brought to you by delightfully, poetic sounding words. However, I feel some parts of the story could be unraveled... Differently. Without giving spoilers, it all seems to come along a little too easily right before the ending. But, on the other hand, nothing about this plot is easy as is. And maybe this was in fact the only way to make it plausible. Which it is. I believe Zafón and every word he wrote. It's a delicious, romantic, sad and beautiful story. Solid 4,5 stars and would definitely reread and recommend!
