A speedy read, I gobbled through this in an hour or two. It was exciting, fascinating, and it was kind of like Big Love in book form in that there are the prophet baddies (the 'god squad') and then Kyra's family who are a good, loving family. 3.5 stars!

This book was very well-written and easy to get into. That being said, this book is not however for the faint of heart.
For 13 year old Kyra, family is her life. How could they not be when there are so many of them. Kyra is apart of the Chosen Ones, a group of polygamists and at the age of 13, Kyra is ready for marriage, as far as her church is concerned. When the Prophet explains that Kyra is to marry her 60 year old uncle, Kyra has to decide between family and freedom. 
This book was good as well as haunting. The author painted a good picture of Kyra's life.

Thirteen-year-old Kyra has grown up in an isolated community without questioning the fact that her father has three wives and she has twenty brothers and sisters. That is, without questioning them much - if you don't count her secret visits to the Mobile Library on Wheels to read forbidden books, or her meetings with Joshua, the boy she hopes to choose for herself instead of having a man chosen for her. But when the Prophet decrees that she must marry her sixty-year-old uncle - who already has six wives - Kyra must make a desperate choice in the face of violence and her own fears of losing her family forever.

Natalie Rovner

This is a great book. Not only does it contain great themes of independence, loss of innocence, and the many ways that power can be misused, it was also incredibly interesting and gripping to read, althoug I do wish there was a sequel. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery, drama, and any sort of realistic/historical fiction. However, it is pretty heavy, and I would not recommend reading it if you are feeling despondent.

I read this book in one day because it was so difficult to put down. It's horrifying and heartbreaking!! She keeps it PG, well as PG as you can keep the subject matter of a polygamist cult, but it's still so sobering. Definitely not a light or carefree read, but feels important.

This book was superb. I would have read it in a couple of hours if I'd had the time.

It kept me fully engrossed from beginning to end, and even when I didn't have time to read it, it still haunted my mind. 

It was, quite simply, one of the most amazing books I have ever read.
