He was impossibly tall, with nearly twice the bulk of any average man and his face was like an oddly shaped potato with cauliflowers stuck on for ears.

I'd seen women out in those streets who had much more allure about them. All shapes and sizes, curvy, flat-chested, small-lipped, big breasted, every piece of skin pierced or tattooed. They were all beautiful in different ways.

After loving the prequel novella so much. I have to admit that I expected more. 

Once again, the world building is very promising and the story is full of potential. The characters are interesting and likeable… especially Drake and Kyra. 

First the length of this book. It was unnecessary long and it was hard to stay patient. Some chapters could have been cut it out because the thought of some characters felt too repetitive. Especially Austyn. She was a broken record. 

This impression of repetition impacted the pacing imo. The story felt too stagnant and weak at the middle. The introduction to the world at the beginning were great then just stagnant like usual when you know the authors, at the last quarter everything happens too fast without any solid build up beforehand. 

The novella was so solid and in a short amount of page the story was perfectly told. I think they can tell a story just great without an excessive amount of pages. 

I have hopes for book 2 and I’m willing to give this series another chance since I’m liking the characters and the world.
