I'm really, really sorry, I wanted to read this book in it's entirety so I could give an honest review, but I can't. I wanted to know if they were witches or vampires or what, so I logged on to goodreads and read a couple of other people's reviews, and after doing that, when I tried to picked up this book and read it, I just couldn't. I'm so sorry. 
A couple years from now I'll hopefully come back to this book and finish it, but right now I just can't do it.

I never give reviews like this and I feel bad even trying to put my feelings into words. 
This books was adorable, it was light, fast phase and cute in theory.
There was no world building, the characters are barely described let alone given real depth and the plot is a hot mess.
The idea was fun, it could have been absolutely AMAZING had it been explained, done well and written enjoyably, but it wasn't.
We get a half way understandable explanation of what's going on, a furious overly clingy love interested and a back story that is constantly going in all sorts of directions.
So many story lines are left wide open, the father of our leading lady is laughable at best, the relationship angle is strange and upsetting, and the all over story is basically reading he cliff bits of twilight only with elements instead of fangs. 
Was it good? If you mean for a day of laughter and easy reading, absolutely! 
If you're looking for some angsty hummus reading with no plot this one is for you!

When I originally first read this book a few years ago, I absolutely adored it. I loved the concept and the storytelling as well as the characters. Now that I'm older and have gone back to it I realize that it wasn't as good as I originally imagined. The main character, Megan, wasn't my favorite she didn't really have a personality. I didn't dislike her but I didn't like her either. I'm going to read the next book, but right now there isn't a third one out and it doesn't look like it will come out anytime soon so I'll probably have to go through the whole series again when it's released

I made the mistake of reading some reviews of Carrier of the Mark before starting it. Therefore, I went into it thinking Twilight. Which didn't bother me too much because I'm not one of those people who absolutely hated it. While I'll agree Carrier of the Mark had some very, VERY close similarities to Twilight it also held its own. If you want to get technical and everything then you have to say this about a lot of the books that came after Twilight. There are even books that came after Harry Potter that were close to it. Books that are close to Vampire Academy. So it's all good and dandy if you want to compare books, but just remember the Authors will have a slightly different take on things. Also I will say a few of my reviews do point out the fact that certain books (if you want to know which ones you'll have to look through my reviews) share these similarities, but I also try to point out the differences in them as well. Instead of just completely tossing it under the bus as a rip-off. I know this may come off as kind of rude, but it's only my opinion.

Carrier of the Mark really is a good story (twilight similarities aside).While the writing was nothing spectacular it was enjoyable. There were parts that sounded magical. It kinda made me want to be in that moment.

"He threw his arms up again. This time the wall rose higher and arched inward, until it finally met above our heads. It was like being underwater, our own private water cave. I could see fish swimming through the liquid ceiling high above us. The sun behind turned the sea dome a shimmering aquamarine. It glittered and sparkled like nothing I had ever seen. " -page 268

I enjoyed Leigh Fallon's take on the elemental aspect of the book, although there were some points where Fionn and the others were trying to explain the Carriers of the mark and the order to Megan that I just plain got confused. I eventually figured it out. It's something about books that have the elements in it that I enjoy. The whole Earth, Fire, Wind, and Air thing gets me. I think it would be interesting to be able to control those, and then there's the fifth one that always pops up later in the story. If you've read any elemental books I'm sure you can guess the fifth one.


I actually adored all the characters as well. It took some of them a bit longer to warm up to our MC, but eventually you knew it was going to happen. I saw Megan as being a lot stronger then other heriones, and her relationship with Adam although, it was insta-love -sigh- I still liked it better then others. Oh and as of right now I didn't notice a love triangle. Thank you Leigh Fallon!


Needless to say I'm extremely excited for Shadow of the mark.

After reading a few mixed reviews on this book I was a little worried. However, when I received a copy for review from HarperCollins UK I was really excited about it Just because it was set in Ireland. And I when I read it I found that I really did enjoy it.

 Carrier of the Mark is about Megan who moves to the US to Ireland with her dad. She quickly befriends Caitlin and Jennifer at school on her first day as well as feeling a pull towards Adam DeRÍs. The "odd" handsome boy at school. Soon she is pulled into a world full of love, passion and power she doesn't understand.

 Carrier of the Mark is the first book in a trilogy and I thought it was great read. Megan is our main characters and I am not going to lie, I am really unsure if I like her or not. She isn't a bad character. She loves her dad and doesn't moan about being moved around to much. But there is just something that bugs me about her. And I did think that the relationship she had with Adam is a big part of. I like romance, I do but that instant connection and how their relationship played out just didn't seem believable. It was to rush. However, I do like Adam. And in a way I get why she is drawn to him. He is dark, handsome and a little bit scary at times. 

 I think I enjoyed the secondary cast more though. I loved Áine, Adam's twin. She is adorable and fun and I just wanted to be friends with her. I was also really drawn to Rían there older brother. I don't know why. I think it was because his power is so dangerous.

 The big things I loved about this book is the setting and the mythology used it. It's set in Ireland! Yes, Ireland. I am so used to reading books set in America this was such a freshing change. I have never been to Ireland (I know shame on me, it's only across the water from me) so of course I don't actually know what it like and even though the setting isn't a big part of the story I still felt like I could have been there. Oh and of course, because it's in Ireland I have the accents for some of the characters in my head and man I love an Irish accent, makes me weak at the knees. The Celtic Mythology plays a massive part to this story. It's fantastic! (Dont want to say anything incase I spoil the story) I also liked that Leigh has brought in Irish names, proper Irish name with the Irish spellings. I understand stood them but it was good that she manages to weave in the correct pronouncation into characters conversations. 

 However, and this a kind of a big HOWEVER, there are some parts of this book that really annoyed me. It's quite slow at times and - I think this is in everyones reviews - there are alot of similarities to Twilight. Yes, I adore Twilight you guys know I do but I don't wanna see another book trying to be Twilight. I don't think this was intentional and some aren't even that noticeable to some but because I am a twilight freak I did noticed.


 Overall, though apart from the few things that bugged over. Carrier of the Mark is a great read and a perfect starter novel to the trilogy. I can't wait to see what's next for Megan and Adam and the rest of the characters.
