This was an interesting book.
I’d never read one about roller derby, but like everyone, went through a phase when whip it came out!
I loved the cast of characters here, Lana especially. There’s a ton of sass in this book.
Maisy is ballsy and strong.
Cain was a bit of a wet blanket for me, but tortured heroes can be like that.
Where I did think things fell down is that it’s never explained why derby was so big in this particular town.
The team and their names were never explained, and derby names and real names are interchanged and it’s hard to follow. It needed to be picked and stayed with.
I also didn’t get the sudden change of feelings from Cain. It just happened because, not for any one reason I could see. I wanted a definite turning point.
Still, this was an interesting book, give it a try.

Maisie has had a life filled with mayhem and she feels adrift in life.  Cain lost his brother and was basically ostracised in his hometown. They both carry baggage but will they help to carry each other's burdens or will the additional weight weigh them down?

When a local charity drive brings them together, they realise that all that banked passion is going to have to come to the surface or they'll explode!  The banter between the derby contestants is trash talk on point!

Cain does tend to cut and run and Maisie is like walking patience!  They completely complement each other - when they get out of their own way! I adored the fact that Maisie is completely unique and completely her own person when it comes to style!
