I really liked it in the start, but as the book progressed I found it a bit difficult to connect with Ginger

I think the reason behind this was because she acted cowardly, not sticking up for Sam and always being too afraid of what everyone thought of her, however I also understand it, the need to fit in can be powerful, especially when you've been on the outside looking in

I gave it three stars mostly because I found it difficult to connect with the characters, not just Ginger

But one character I wish we had gotten to know more was Emily, she was someone who was always there even when the main character didn't really want her

In a way I can understand both Ginger and Emily, the way they view each oher. Ginger being jealous of Emily because she's pretty, kind and confident enough to stand up for her friends, she had managed to change her appearance while still remaining the same person on the inside, something Ginger felt like she had lost after the bullying and appearance change

She never knew that Emily had always found her beautiful and wanted to be her friend, not Shannon's. In the end it worked out and they became true friends

It's funny how we strive for certain people's approval and attention only to realize there were other people there who always liked us even when we didn't like ourselves

When it came to Ginger and Shannon, it ended as a toxic friendship, something that was bittersweet but I'm glad Ginger finally let her go. 

The moment you realize that the person you admired all those years is not who you thought she was, it's a harsh realization but something important to see, even if it hurts

I myself am going through a friendship breakup and I have to always remind myself that whenever I miss them, I know I'm just missing a ghost
