I thought it was an interesting approach to thinking about taboo ways to live. However, I do think it was cruel and crass in a way that I’d never like to read again. Different from what I usually read and would not personally recommend.

I... was not expecting to like this book. I read it in a day!! It was so intriguing every step of the way that I couldn't put it down. I did put be off that his 'first time' was with an unconscious girl. Rape is awful and I just hate when it's in movies and books. And the scene with the dead baby... incredibly gruesome and one hell of a visual. I thought Aron's 'Playground' was bad but this has taken it to a new level with just that scene. Everyone was worried about the skull fucking but by the time you get to that part (which is the last two pages of the book), it doesn't phase you. At least it didn't bother me. I will say this is a book I'd like a physical copy of it and re-read it sometime.

I honestly don’t know how to rate this, this will more than likely change. I’m very disturbed after finishing this—well actually since I started it honestly. If you want to be completely uncomfortable and disgusted then maybe you could check this out. That is literally the only people I recommend this too. Anyone else looking for a recommendation, completely ignore this book, save yourself.

Sick. Totally sick. And I mean it. I have to take a very long shower. 

If we forget these very mentally ill characters & the disgusting scenes, it was quite a good book. 

Well written & quite humorous (once again if we forget the whole situation). I’m conflicted between liking the author or hating him with my whole soul for creating this. 

I need to binge watch kitten videos now.

This material is very, VERY graphic. So this book isn't for the faint at heart at all. I am sure a lot of this material was in the vein of satire but STILL.

This is a book that really is not for the faint of heart, or even for casual horror readers. This is really for that group that is interested in Extreme horror, both in literature and cinema, and enjoys finding the edges of the lines that border into “too far” or “too disturbing” for them. 

For them, not society, but them personally. Seeing this as an exploration of the deprivation of the mind or the use of disturbing to illustrate a certain social point.

Some of gore and horrific scenes in this book serve a purpose to that exploration, however it lost me on the halfway point where they went beyond my personal line.

I did finish the book and am still processing, and I think it would be interesting for a very niche group of people.

Like American Psycho without anything interesting to say. A book that's edgy for the sake of being edgy and very pleased with itself in the way a middle schooler is after telling a dead baby joke. At least it was short enough to not be a colossal waste of time.

Is it meant to be ironic how blatant their characterization is? Spell it out please, it isn’t clear enough 😩. These two were basically shouting from the rooftops about how fucked up and *unique* they are. I think it’s more horrifying if they don’t see that there is anything wrong with themselves or their actions as opposed to them literally mentioning it every chance they get like it’s their singular personality trait. 

The subject matter is obviously horrifying, and there were parts where it felt like they were both “pick me’s” and “oh I’m so different and fucked up,” which of course they are, but it went a little over the top at times with their insistence that they aren’t ~normies~

This is dark and disturbing as a novel in general. Major trigger warnings ⚠️  for cannibalism, necrophilia and dead babies. I did enjoy the carefree/nonchalant writing style. I've heard this described as splatterpunk genre.

Dead Inside is a horrible story about horrible characters. We experience it through the eyes of an unnamed hospital security guard who likes girls that are…. well, dead. Until one day a different kind of woman catches his eye. She is warm, alive, and with an unconventional obsession of her own.

The first thing I did after finishing this book was to look up the author. I felt extremely uncomfortable, like I had just been tricked into participating in a sick experiment. What if the author is a creep that gets off on writing and spreading these awful stories and I have fallen for it? But from what I could find in his social media, Chandler Morrison seems like a normal guy. I guess he just likes writing about disgusting stuff, which is fine, I suppose. But just in case, Chandler… if by any chance you are reading this… who are you?… are you ok?

As you can imagine by now, the events in this book are increasingly horrifying and shocking, which is amplified by how obnoxious the characters are. To be completely honest, I don’t think the story itself is remarkable, but the writing definitely is. Chandler Morrison does an incredible job of transporting the reader into the mind of the security guard and, trust me when I say I hated every second of it. He is insufferable, snobby, and narcistic (although he does have a great sense of humour). I hated him so much, I was actually happy to meet our second character Helen. Despite her strange habits she seemed so human, so reasonable. Of course, I quickly changed my mind.

As the story progresses, both characters feed each other’s delusions and push each other’s boundaries to unthinkable levels. Against every instinct, I wanted to keep reading. I gave this book a good rating, but I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. I don’t think anyone should read this book. But I know people will do, and I’m ok with that.

I’ve spent more time trying to decide how I’ll review this book than I spent reading it. 

This was definitely a very bizarre and courageous book and I’m not sure if I enjoyed myself or not while reading it. This book reminds me of when I eat something I really enjoy, but I’ve eaten it so much that it becomes almost tasteless and bland by the end? 

The story follows a necrophilliac security guard and a maternity doctor who has a taste for…aborted babies. That’s it. That’s basically the book. It jumps around their relationship…Well, whatever it is that they have going on and as you continue reading, their bond becomes more messed up and…oddly codependent. 

For others, I would say this book is vulgar, disturbing and heavily fucked up, but when it comes to my own preferences, I need to feel for the characters and have some sort of connection towards them to actually get those feelings from the book, which I unfortunately didn’t get. 
Don’t get me wrong, I still felt that sense of “oh-oh…we’re going there…” but I think books that are there for mostly shock factor tend to leave me feeling quite…unfulfilled. It definitely pushed boundaries that not many authors push, which I give props to Morrison for. 

I think for how short the book was, it was still a successful read for me because I wasn’t not enjoying it, but it’s one I definitely won’t be recommending to others.
