I thought it was a good read overall. Sometimes I just wanted to V8 slap Brett. I mean, come on!

Changing Course was an emotionally exhausting read, but I mean that in a positive way. Readers are introduced to Sarah and Brett through some flashbacks told from Brett's point of view. Sarah was a handful, spunky and likable in those flashbacks. Unfortunately, a tragic accident took that Sarah away and left behind one that was about as far from likable as you can imagine. But, Brett was devoted to her, and though they split up, he still loved her and tried to be there for her. He still lived his own life, but put his best interests aside as he catered to her. That is, until sassy, sweet and sexy waitress Jesse finally decides to act on her crush and makes a move.

So, here's the thing: I genuinely liked Sarah at the beginning of the book. She and Brett seemed to have a solid relationship built on something real. I had very mixed feelings when he started flirting with Jesse and when their relationship began to change into something more. That, however, quickly changed as more of Sarah's true colors became clear. God, she was such a manipulative bitch. I mean, straight up evil and insincere. She made me sick to my stomach.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Jesse from the beginning. I want to be her friend. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapters told from her perspective and it was apparent how much she really liked Brett. But, I had difficulties with their pairing because of Sarah. Conflicting emotions. So many of them. It was easy to forget my reservations as I observed more of Jesse and Brett together. They were perfection. They complemented each other so well and their relationship was natural. Real and believable.

Brett was incredible. Sexy, sweet, caring and flawed, he won my heart. Talk about someone with conflicting emotions... he had them all and I could feel every single one of them as I read. Through his eyes and his inner dialogue, it was easy to see how torn he was and how difficult the prospect of entering into a new relationship was. He was attracted to Jesse and they were well-matched, but he was reluctant to start something real because of his past, because his wife was still there... in a way.

Changing Course wasn't your typical second chance story. There were plot twists I could never have predicted and characters I just can't seem to let go of, for better or worse. Even the secondary characters were amazing. Am I the only one who wants the next book to be about Caleb and Kara? I'm shipping that hard. This book is best paired with some wine to calm the nerves and tissues to soak up the tears. I was completely enraptured by Brett and Jesse's story and everything and everyone involved.
