Skeleton King
Reviews

I can not UNrecommend this book enough. The triggers are many but they’re done poorly. Clearly more for shock factor than any kind of general plot. It apparently is the plot of Nightmare before Christmas if it was a bad porno. The smut is middleschool wattpad at best and the characters are boring with no development. The writing is also disjointed and pretty terrible, with several typos and a serious misunderstanding of punctuation. I will be purging it from my bookshelf and my mind at the conclusion of this review.

I don't have any triggers but I encourage you to look them up if you have any. This book crosses lines I didn't know existed. That said, I found it was very slow and just didn't hit the punch for me. I loved the premise of it and absolutely loved how many times I said "WTF?!?!", but I found myself falling asleep and being bored by a lot of the material that was in the book.

This was a triP, at first I was like uh maybe not for me? But I decided to keep going and I found myself reading it in like a different way? It wasn’t that I was reading through the ⚰️crazY⚰️ things and being like oh yes I see the appeal… hell nooo I just started seeing the things that were happening in a different way I guess? I was also picturing The Nightmare Before Christmas (which is what this book is based off of) but the extremely adult version, I loved seeing the comparisons (fucked up as a few of them are 😶🌫️) *Obviously this book contains a lot of triggers so be aware of that!

English Being an adaptation of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" only very twisted, the story is about John or as he’s known "Skeleton King" a young man who is afraid of people, specifically young women for trauma caused by his mother and Sarah Fink's "daughter" who abuses her mentally and physically. They both live in Hallows Grove a community where anything is possible and people can do anything without being judged, that's how we meet very quirky people and it makes it possible for both John and Fink to do the things they do. John is too sweet, the book is very dark and the things that happen are terrible, seriously, the author did not hold back at all, but even so John is very nice to Sarah and respects her, it is sad to see what he thinks of himself, it feels sad because after reading each habitant you could say that he is the most normal, while Sarah, omg her life is terrible, all the things that happened to her in the book were very strong, so when they are together you forget everything bad that happens to her. Now, the rest of the characters I love them, even Fink, although the things he did were bad, I can't hate him, Mayor Greer was perfect and the triplets "Sanity eaters" loved them they were my fav as well as Nothing, John's dog, I need a book of all of them, in fact of all the habitants of Hallows Grove please, I don't know if the author has in mind to do it but it would be incredible, I'm just saying. In conclusion, I liked it more than I thought, in some parts it felt a bit rushed and dramatic, but you don’t get lost and the plot is good, so this book I only recommend to those who like the dark genre, because it’s VERY strong and has practically all the perversions you can imagine and a little bit of gore, you have been warned.

Take the warning seriously Take the warning seriously. If you read a book that has a trigger warning and you proceed to read it, don’t act like you weren’t warned. The book is good. The necrophilia was unexpected and not something I look for in a book but I have read far darker books than this one. I read this concurrently with friends and we all take turns choosing books and discussing them. I’m not mad about the selection. Sometimes I feel like the day or two I spend on a book is wasted but in this instance, I’m mostly happy. Bring on the dark topics!
