The Sookie Stackhouse books are delightful Southern Gothic supernatural mysteries, starring Sookie, the telepathic cocktail waitress, and a cast of increasingly colourful characters, including vampires, werewolves and things that really do go bump in the night.

the ending was hilarious!!!! lol no one has the information now but her since no vamp is allowed in her house! Alcide is cool. really like him, and Eric just keeps getting better as the story goes on!

Once again, Charlaine Harris is successful in making Sookie Stackhouse interesting. This book wasn't my favorite but I did like the new characters and especially the little romance happening between Sookie and Eric. This book left the series in such a state that I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and I'm pretty sure it's going to stay interesting with all the new characters and plot twists in this series.

Far from perfect, but the best of the series so far.

I am reading this series because I have seen and enjoyed watching the TV series based off of it, True Blood. This particular book is the inspiration for season 3. When comparing between the two media, book is definitely the foundation and the TV series elaborated and added further details. Book 3 matches most closely compared to the others so far. 

This time, Sookie finds herself in Mississippi and discovering/expanding upon the existence of werewolves. She is guided around by Alcide Herveaux, a werewolf in debt to Eric, who is helping her find Bill.

Charlaine Harris seemed to have her own love affair (no complaints here) with Alcide. She does an excellent job of introducing, describing, and keeping him relevant. This is refreshing as secondary characters haven't been her strong suit throughout the earlier parts of the series. I mean, look at Jason for example. He is extremely important in book one, is Sookie's brother, but we don't know much more about him at this point other than he loves women and the law doesn't like him even though this is 3 books in.

I also liked how Harris tackled Sookie's inner monolog better. She drew Sookie back to memories and idioms given to her by her grandmother. Great way to tie back to a character that is important to Sookie without them having an active role.

Second half of the book was more like the first 2 books. The pacing picked up at the cost of details. Overall though, a solid read.

When her vampire boyfriend Bill disappears, Sookie journeys to Mississippi to find her beloved, who has gotten himself caught in a dangerous web of murder and betrayal at Club Dead, an elite underground society.

Los primeros dos libros me gustaron mucho.
En cambio en este, por Dios, no pasa nada. Sookie de repente se pone en modo tarada, la ubican en un plot que solo funciona si tiene hombres a su alrededor y que además todos le tienen ganas, básicamente. Ah, y hay una escena de violación que después queda como si no hubiera sido la gran cosa.
A esa saga le quedan diez libros más por delante. Y no sé qué tan comprometido estoy con la causa.

I think for me this is a situation where I really wish I had finished all the books before I had watched the tv series. I think this might have been 4 stars for me instead of 3 if that had been the case, at least in regards to the earlier seasons of the series. I do love the way Charlaine Harris writes though. Her writing style is really charming and the southern sassiness really comes through on the page with Sookie. I will definitely be continuing with the series. I have been told I need to finish these before I start with her Midnight, Texas books, so onward and outward as they say!

Great sense of mystery to this third installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series. A lot to unpacking early on and so much added social drama that makes for a really fun read. We get to find out a bit more about vampire politics and goings on. We continue to get more insight I the supernatural world taking place outside the realm of the human world. As usual poor Sookie goes through some tough times in this book. It made for a really compelling and overall fun read.
