** spoiler alert ** I can tell from this book that this series will be a solid two stars or three stars for each book. Content warning for sexual assault. This book had the same simple writing style as the first book. These books are the kind of books that you read when you want a light weight fluffy read with no hard thinking involved. I think it was unrealistic that Sookie didn’t have a bigger reaction to meeting another telepath like herself. She didn’t even seem to have questions about it even though she’s never met anyone like herself before. Some of the character moments didn’t match their characterization. That being said, I loved seeing Sookie go undercover at the Fellowship of the Sun. The Fellowship of the Sun was an interesting choice of villain and I liked how they fit into the mythology of this world. The ending to this book dragged for me. While I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first, I will still continue the series sometime in the future.

I enjoyed this book immensly. It was better than the first book and I believe this series is going continue to be good. This book was a lot faster baced and that was one of the reasons why I liked it more compared to the first book. In these novels, the characters are enjoyable and just simply good. I quite like Sookie in the books although she's not my favorite character in the TV series and I in general, I somehow find the characters to be more real in the books than in the TV series no matter how weird that might sound. All in all, this book was great and I cannot wait to read more books from this series.

Compared to book 1 of this series, this one is much better. Book 1 is needed to establish the characters, however the pacing of 2 is improved. The writing is better. More time is taken with each plot event and transition between so that the flow is smoother. When comparing to the show (reason I'm reading), the book has the bones and foundation, but I think the show had more depth and involved the secondary characters better. Pretty much season 2. Book is Sookie centric (only makes sense as the series is hers), has no Jason involved, and shorter interaction with the meanad. Tara is finally introduced but has no major part. I do like with the book that Bill's character is kept more consistent with what I believe is coming up in the next book or two. Overall, easy, fun read that isn't meant to be taken serious. I did enjoy the story and diving into more of the source of the show.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Charlaine Harris's fast paced writing style and wild imagination. I am one of those people who watched the TV show before reading the books, so I already had a rough idea about what was going to happen yet at the same time I liked the differences between the two. I love all the characters even bitchy Pam, who I just have to smile at. But, I am proud to say I am a STRICTLY TEAM ERIC! all the way. Bill does sometimes irritate me, but I still like him. This book honestly just made me laugh. Tonight I will be dreaming of Eric(A.K.A. Alexander Skarsgård) in pink Lycra, strange but actually very...yummy.

This is the second book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries and I enjoyed it far more than the first. The characters were developed a little further and the story moved along at a good pace.

This book is good for what it is. The pacing is great. I’m grateful the show did such an amazing job casting, cause it makes it easy to picture the characters. Alexander Skarsgard is Eric. I’m just waiting for Sookie and Eric to get together. Eric oozes main character energy, Bill not so much. Bill is such a shit boyfriend. He’s giving insecure. I typically don’t find possessiveness hot in any books, but especially with Bill it just comes off super insecure. His ownership attitude over Sookie is gross and he’s just plain unlikable. But the interesting story, world, and Eric made this a fun read and I’m excited to continue the series. It’s way different from the show, so I don’t even know where the story is going. Few things I disliked. Sookie seems pretty judgmental. The way she was judging everyone at the orgy was uncalled for. Like she was just way too pure for something like that. Because of the way her opinions are presented, as if she is being reasonable, I feel like this is a reflection of the authors opinions. She says a lot of whorephobic things in the first book too. Not just her, but the way all the women are talked about. Like people who have sex a lot are less than. I would hope that the Mynad and Fellowship plot lines are continued in the next book. If not then they were very poorly done and not fleshed out at all. I think Godfrey was very boring compared to the show’s Godfrey. Same with the Mynad, her character was not explored to its full potential at all. The Dallas vampires are boring. Like half of Bon Tomps has died and the town is acting like that’s totally fine.

I like how this one starts off relatively normal at the very beginning before hitting you with an intense scene. You get to see how everyone is handling Bill being part of the community. There are some great moments of humor sprinkled in that earn a chuckle from the reader. Writing continues to pull the reader in and the added addition of even more supernatural beings is very interesting and adds to the story to some degree. Very ominous in the beginning, and actually for a good portion of the story. Tension building done very well. Just like the first novel this has some expertly played humor in it that I find enjoyable. Sookie shows just how compassionate of a person she is.
