This was fantastic! I truly loved this reading experience and would highly recommend it. It starts off with a regular French architect Lucien living his life in Occupied Paris during World War II. The pace is pretty good because right away he is offered a job both dangerous and challenging but well paying. He accepts and thus starts the story of a small group of people doing what they can to protect persecuted Jews from the Nazis. This story has surprising relationships, friendships, and partnerships that are at times truly heartwarming and other times appalling. The characters seem so real and well reasoning. I love the setting of Paris, France, and I love the focus on the beauty and art of architecture and the French culture. It was a brilliant read and I wish I could read something like this every time I open a book.
