Hoo boy, a proper review would take almost as long to write as this took to read. Very briefly, this was a very detailed and careful genealogy of contemporary secularism, which goes a lot deeper than the typical "Science made us all atheists".

Perhaps most satisfying was his account of the way that the cosmos as a whole has changed, from a hierarchical one (going all the way up to the Most High) to a flattened one. (Similar to C.R. Wiley's comments in 'The Household and the War for the Cosmos'.)

If you're interested in modernity and secularism, then you really ought to read this at least once. Much more must be said about this work, but I suppose this is what James K.A. Smith is for.
