I'm giving 5 stars for Mae West and the CONTENT of this book, 4 stars for the author's style of writing because while hearing Mae West's voice throughout this book was fascinating, I feel like the author could have done a better job adding more contextual information about Miss West. 

Also, you get A LOT of Mae West in her own words. She is EXTREMELY confident, to the point of arrogance. She thinks she is the most gorgeous person (even in her later years), the most talented, the smartest and the luckiest. She even openly pities people who didn't have her advantages! HOWEVER, despite that Mae West is a hugely appealing individual, in large part because she really is amazing and she is also a kind hearted person. Also I think more women should allow some of that pride to rub off on them because we tend to sell ourselves short! Seeing a woman like Miss West with an huge ego is so unusual and honestly it's kind of refreshing - her confidence got her a LONG way in what was (and in many ways still is) a man's world. 

I stand by my 5 stars for this book because I enjoyed learning about her life so much! I will be reading more Mae West biographies soon, this one was my first and is a good place to start.
