I really enjoyed the intermingling of myths and legends with sea shanties and poems. Each section is divided by different goddesses connected with the ocean. And I found some of the historical superstitions and factual accounts of women and the sea really fascinating. .

Charlotte also explores grief and birth in her memoir and connects them so well to the theme. While I have yet to experience childbirth, I found myself resonating with some of the fears and feelings of anxiousness I already associate with that part of life. I feel like when, God willing, it is my turn to have a child this book will make me feel as though I have a friend beside me understanding exactly why I have the fears I do, however irrational they may be. .

I have always had a connection with the water, not sure why, perhaps it is because I am a cancer, a water element, or because my relatives braved the ocean in search of a new life here in Canada. I always feel a sense of calm, rejuvenation and reassurance when I am near the ocean or a lake or even a small stream. Some of my best memories have been laying down in the warm sun listening to the waves lap against the shore. .
