"Kellen has begun to master his spellslinging and the Argosi tricks for staying alive, and he and Reichis have found a career that suits them both: taking down mercenary mages who make people's lives miserable. But Ferius is concerned that Kellen is courting disaster..."--Publisher's description.

Charmcaster

Kellen, Reichis and Ferius are on their way to Gitabria, a city where amazing inventions are dreamed up and sold across the land of the Seven Sands. But when the three of them stumble across a tiny mechanical bird, magically brought to life, they quickly realise all is not as it appears. Meanwhile two strange Argosi appear, carrying secrets from Ferius' past, together with an unlikely Jan'Tep ally. And as time ticks on, all the cards in Ferius' deck point to the emerging tides of war . . .

These are quick, easy, fun reads. I love the squirrel cat and the relationships involved. The plot doesn't always work for me, but it is still fun. I highly recommend the narration as it is perfect for these characters and the story.

It's the fourth book in the series, and I'm still hooked by it. From the beginning to the end, I was living the story like it's mine.

You learn a lot about a new country in this one: Gitabria (I spend most of the book reading Gibraltar). I was so hooked by how it works and its traditions. And as you discover it, you have the political side of the book that is brought to light. However, it makes everything more complex, and I liked it.

We learn a little more about the power of the Shadowblack. Also, we have one more sight of the big picture, thanks to the cards. An unsettling thing was the lies; you don't trust anyone in this book. It feels like it was the theme of the book, but it's crucial.

In this part of the series, you find a Kellen who has evolved. In the beginning, compared to the previous books, but most important throughout the whole book. This evolution is significant, and I liked following him growing like that. This evolution is mainly due to all the characters he meets in the books and what he learn from his mistakes.

The ending was harsh to read due to a decision, but it will not have been a good thing to stay as before. This book marks a turning point in the series.

Again a solid 5-star read. Halfway through I wasn't completely sure about it, but then it got SO. GOOD. And intense. But mostly fricking good. Is it October yet?

I honestly cannot express how much I adore this series. The characters are so engaging and brilliant, the story is complex but so well written and I swear Reichis just gets more and more badass with every book. This book had me running the gauntlet of all emotions from laughing out loud to sobbing like a baby. We learn more about Ferius and Kellen grows so much - my heart is actually broken for him. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one. Bless Sebastian de Castell for not making the wait between books too long. Thank You x
