One Kick A Novel
Reviews

Just finished the ARC of Chelsea Cain's new series. The lovely Ms Cain has a great start to a brand new series. Though the first few chapters felt a bit slow, it was probably necessary for establishing the world and its characters. The premise is great and Kick is a character she has a great bit of luck with, damaged, tough, maybe a bit broken. I see a lot of potential in this series. I'm anxious to see where she takes us next and just how far down the rabbit hole she'll take the readers with this new heroine. We all know she's not afraid to go to the darkest corners of the human experience. But even Kick and her tragic past is going to be hard to face. A good start.

The character building in One Kick is amazing. I want to know so much more about Kick, Bishop, Mel, and James, so I will continue to read these (as it is a series). However, the procedural elements irked me. I hate when the driving movements behind the mystery are resurfacing memories of a psychologically fractured character instead of more concrete clues. And man, was this so freaking dark. (view spoiler)[I can't believe she gave Mel her kidney! Cain did a pretty amazing job making a child molester sympathetic in any way shape or form. Scary.
